Does anyone else's dog seem fascinated by football on TV?

With the World Cup on, I've noticed my dog paying a lot more attention to the TV than usual.

He doesn't care about most programs, but whenever a football match is on he seems to watch the movement on the screen, especially when the ball is moving quickly.

I'm curious if anyone else has noticed this with their dog.

Do they actually see what's happening, or are they just reacting to the movement and crowd noise?

Your dog is fascinated by a ball and you’re surprised?

I wouldn't watch football if you paid me, but he likes to watch nature programmes, particularly prey. He has been known to drool when something particularly tasty looking is on a David Attenborough show.

Occasionally he will watch really random shows that I can't fathom the interest

They can see modern TVs but not the old fashioned kind (it's to do with the flicker rate/frequency)

My dog is absolutely fascinated with horses. We have been known to put old Westerns on the TV for her. 😁

Not a dog & not football but….
My cat loves watching ballet on tv. I put on the Royal Ballet’s The Nutcracker every Christmas & he’s glued to the screen.

Mine isn’t bothered by tv in general, but hates the screen saver pictures you get on Apple TV. He’ll bark at the tv until you turn over.

He did once watch dog agility on Crufts though. Hopefully picking up tips.

Not a dog but one of our now full grown cats as a kitten became incredibly animated watching the bob sleighing during the Winter Olympics. I have photos somewhere of him leaping up at the screen repeatedly, trying to ‘catch’ the sleighs as they hurtled over the ice.

My dog (like me) is not really into the football, but does watch DogTV quite often and especially enjoys seeing sheep and seabirds for some reason.

@Surfragette

Dog TV? What is this? And where can you access this?

It's a streaming app for dogs. You should be able to download it on most smart TVs/phones. Some of the content is paid, but there are lots of free streams with ads too. My dog loves it.

We've recently adopted an 8 year old lurcher, history unknown. I don't think he'd ever seen a telly before and was fascinated watching golf with DH.
