Moving from three meals to two - golden retriever

Afternoon all

My Goldie is now eight months old and I understand that now is about the time they move from 3 meals to 2 meals a day. Is there any reason you need to move them at this stage? I’m quite happy with him having three meals a day. He has a medium breakfast, smaller lunch and larger dinner and that works best with his digestion.

I was advised of this too , many years ago .
However it didn't suit my digs digestive system and like you I was happy to feed him 3x a day .
I'd say stick with what suits you and your ( very handsome ) pooch, just watch the calories.

If your (beautiful) boy is happy with the current system, and so are you then don’t change it 😊

None of my five have two meals a day. Given risk of bloat and Golden tendency to be little scroungers I’ve found feeding little but often to far better.

Side note - he looks lovely and slim, which is always so nice to see in the breed!

Echo others, if this is working for you then stick with it. I have a lab, and I kept him on three meals a day up until he was around 10-11 months I think?

Conversely for us, it seemed to suit him better to go down to two meals a day but he doesn’t eat that quick, his bowel movements improved and he was more motivated by treats on his walks 😂

My goldies (I’m a trainer) never stop having 3 meals a day. Reduced risk of bloat and it suiting my dogs/my routine mean I never change from it

Thank you everyone I’ll stick with the three meals for now. @TheHungryHungryLandsharksyes he is slim and we aim to keep him lean :)

My labs (3&5) both have 3 meals a day

My beagle is 8 and still has three meals a day plus an afternoon snack 😂

Love that ! Most days mine enjoys mid morning and afternoon snacks too :)
