Lost my beautiful Sheltie

FiveShelties · 22/04/2026 09:15

I have lost my beautiful girl, who went down hill very quickly. She was 13.5 years and just the best girl, loved so much.

I cannot imagine life without her.

I'm so sorry FiveShelties. Sheltie are beautiful, special dogs. We lost our Sheltie about 15 years ago now but we still think of him and talk about him. It took us years to get another dog because he was just irreplaceable but we now have a bonkers golden cocker spaniel who is loved just as much. We couldn't face getting another Sheltie because it reminded us too much of our lovely boy. Once again, deepest sympathy. It is so awful losing a much loved dog xx

It's devastating when it's their time. You will accept it in time & although you can't imagine it, life just carries on around you & you're forced to live it, until you want to live it, finding happiness in the little things & your grief lives alongside you .💕

Thank you so much. Just the hardest thing to do, but the right thing to do. She was so loved.

It was the strangest thing but as we looked out of the window at the vets there was a rainbow.

I’m so sorry for your loss. She will always be a part of you and she will have known that she was so very loved. You did the bravest and hardest thing for her so that she didn’t suffer. Be kind to yourself 💐🌈

FiveShelties · 22/04/2026 11:46

Thank you @Letsgoforaskip

I have had 5 Shelties and 3 cats over the years and making the decision to PTS seems to get more difficult.

She was so happy at the Vets, just laid down as if she also thought it was time. Bloody tough.

That is tough but also showed you that she was ready. One of mine was very ill but wagged her tail when the vet nurse came in. It is utterly heartbreaking but they are lucky that we can spare them suffering.

Letsgoforaskip · 22/04/2026 12:06

I also do sympathise with you about finding it worse. One of my dogs is 12 and I’m already dreading it even though at the moment he’s in good health. It’s a huge decision to make and we know how much we’re going to miss them. But still, definitely the right thing to do 🥰

BridgetJonesV2 · 22/04/2026 12:08

I'll always be grateful that we can euthanise pets after seeing my Dad's horrific end of life with cancer. But my older boy (nearly 13) is starting to show signs of coming towards the end and I'm absolutely dreading it. He's the other half of me (DH just rolls his eyes at this) and I don't know how I'm going to function without him velcro-ed to my side.

Take your time grieving, you've lost someone you loved very much Flowers

@FiveShelties I’m so sorry for your loss and I know exactly how you are feeling and it’s really tough. We had our much loved dog (age 14) PTS on Sunday evening after he too went downhill very quickly. I was his ‘person’ and he was my best friend and I’m heartbroken. 💐🌻for you at this sad time.

KnottyKnitting · 22/04/2026 16:58

Oh I am so sorry- I have had shelties in my life since I was 10- they are such a special breed. We lost our last one a few years back and I still miss her terribly. So sorry for your loss x

TheToteBagLady · 22/04/2026 20:53

I am so sorry.

The only thing that gives me comfort is knowing that because their lives are much shorter than ours, they never have to live without us.
She had you for her whole life ❤️

FiveShelties · 22/04/2026 23:04

Thank you all for your kind words - much appreciated. It felt so strange this morning getting up and wondering where she was.

@GottaKeepItClassy I am so sorry💐it is an awful decision to make, even though you know it is the right one.

I'm so so sorry. Well done on making the right decision for her though. I know it's not easy.

We had to have our beautiful collie, my best friend, put to sleep this time last year. It's been immensely painful but I've now reached a point where the memories are more smile-inducing than painful. I still miss her, I always will, but she was 100% worth it.

Have you got a garden? Perhaps you could plant a tree in memory of your darling girl.

FiveShelties · 23/04/2026 07:17

Thank you @SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter for your kind words. Funnily enough, we are having the back garden landscaped and have selected a tree to be "Misty's tree".

It is just so hard to lose a much loved pet. She stole our hearts.💔
