My poor poor 9YO whippet was suddenly really ill and unable to walk on Wednesday morning. He was seen by the vet by 8.30am (try that on the NHS) and admitted. he had incredibly low platelet count and no infection. By end of day we were told he had 'Immune Mediated Thrombocytopenia' - basically his immune system had spontaneously started attacking white blood cells - so no clotting. They put him on steroids and fluids, and he came home for the night wednesday, was monitored thursday, and thne we had him thursdy night at home... by yesterday morning he was yellow an dhad internal bleeding. We had to have hm PTS as it was obvs no going back from that.
We are just absolutely heartbroken - all of the family absolutely loved him, and he loved them back. We're miserable. It's the pits. the absolute pits.
I had never heard of this illness - it's absolutely relentless, and he had no chance.
