Any advice on breeds?

We would like to get a dog. I’m now a SAHM so will be in most of the day. One DS who is almost 9 and very chilled out (nickname is sloth). I had a bearded collie growing up and a spaniel before that.

I would like a small/smallish dog and not one that needs hours of walking- obviously I know they need walking but spaniel levels of activity aren’t compatible with us. Happy to get regular professional grooming.

Any suggestions would be welcome. TIA.

They are a show family. I believe one she kept was for her adult daughter and one for her.

that's not a good sign. you shouldn't really keep or take 2 of the same litter it creates litter mate syndrome. to me that's a red flag if a breeder does that. causes issues

It’s a huge red flag if they’re willing to sell two puppies to a pet home

Keeping them themselves is more of a grey area tbh, litter mate syndrome is caused by the puppies being too bonded too each other and not the human. Most pet owners don’t have the set up and time/will to be doing everything twice over and keeping them separately must of the time. (I know I barely cope with one puppy at a time 😂)

But with people who are showing, working or doing high level sports with dogs… that is where they’re putting in all their time already, they’ll do things like crate and rotate for training or exercise sessions anyway because dogs are doing different things. So they’re often willing and able to do two puppies at once.

It should be something that makes you ask more questions definitely, but not automatically a bad thing.

She definitely wouldn’t have sold two to the same home. We were told that at the time. Not that I wanted or could afford two!
