How do you stop your outside dog shower freezing up in winter?

I read that people have hot outside showers for their dogs - how do you shop the thermostat freezing up in winter?

Doesn’t the mercury do that?

I think it's advised to have an isolator valve for the shower inside, so you could turn off the water and drain it. I'm not sure if we do, but have been lucky so far without using one. Our shower is in a sheltered spot that's not very exposed to the elements and the winters here in the SW are reasonably mild.

If concerned about an upcoming period of very cold weather, I would probably wrap mine in insulation like bubble wrap/ wool.

Thanks both - I'll find out about an isolation valve.
