My dog has a swollen breast any ideas?

We are going to call vet tomorrow but just wondered if anyone had seen this.

She is a just turned one year old daschund. She is not spayed yet - our older dog had a lot of permanent complications after spaying young and we were so nervous the vet advised waiting until after her second season and then spaying. She had one season about 4 months ago.

she seems generally well and not acting in pain or anything. The other breasts feel pretty much normal but it does seem to be spreading up one side now so affecting the area around more than one nipple -BUT the main lump isn’t around the nipple it’s in between.

if she seemed unwell I’d take her to the emergency vet but at the moment she’s just lumpy so I’m thinking maybe it’s some kind of hormonal issue? But I’d really love any ideas.
im feeling nervous about this!

I attached a photo to show the lump she’s lying in her back so it looks smaller but its fairly large I haven’t noticed it before yesterday morning but I also wasn’t looking for lumps so I’m not sure exactly when it appeared

Mastitis - she needs to see a vet.

How’s your dog doing?

It could be mastitis but when my dog had this it turned out to be a mammary gland tumour, a fine needle aspirate was done that confirmed it was cancerous and she had to have surgery. Fingers crossed that's not the case for your pup but if it is they'll probably recommend spaying her as that can reduce the risk of it coming back.
