Hi!

Our 8 year old schnoodle recently had her yearly vaccinations and she’s lost a fair bit of weight.

For context, for years we’d had her on a mix of dry AM and frozen (thawed!) raw at tea time. Last year we were told she needed to watch her weight (she was 10.5kg), and the vet recommended rethinking raw food.

We moved her onto the food shown in the pics below. Dry in the morning (about 50g) and a tray of wet for tea. Mid year she had lost just under 2kg and the vet was pleased.

However, her latest visit and she is now weighing just over 7kg. Vet isn’t too concerned, but now thinks she’s on the light side and wants to keep an eye - asked for us to pop her on the scales in a couple of months.

Now - and the reason I’m here - We’re starting to question if we’re starving her, and looking at the packaging - we are! Sad. Would anyone be willing to help me work out how to change it? What would you do? Increase dry - if so when? Increase wet? Mix the two over two meals?

Ive attached pics of the back of the packets and the amounts that she apparently should be having.

Please no judgy ness, we feel crap enough as it is. We thought we were doing the right thing and now it feels like it’s gone too much the other way. Sad

Better too thin than too fat (in general, not at extremes) so if the vet isn't too worried I'd not stress. Sounds like she's ballpark right, you don't want her putting loads on. What was her body condition score? She's losing weight slowly so I wouldn't crank the food up. I'd probably give her an extra 1/3 of what you usually do and reweigh in two weeks to see what's happening.

I've never looked at how much food I'm supposed to give my dog according to the packet. The charity who gave him to me told me what is a healthy weight range for him and then I ensure he stays in that range by weighing him regularly (e.g. every couple of months) and adjusting his food very slightly up or down accordingly.

I'd feed half the RDA of each. So 50gms of dry in the morning is right. But she should be having two trays of wet for tea.
