Our beautiful old boy is being PTS in the morning. He's blind, deaf, with a heart murmur and has had a difficult couple of days, after a possible stroke. I know it's the right thing to do but my heart is breaking

Im so sorry. Offering a hand to hold. ❤️

legogal1 · 04/02/2026 22:17

I'm so sorry ❤️

Hand hold from me and a paw hold from my two four legged friends 🐾. It's always hard, no matter how right the decision. Thinking of you all 💐

Thank you. For various reasons this will be our last dog. Looking at him tonight he's snoozing by the fire, all calm after a sausage tea, and you wouldn't know anything is wrong with him

What a difficult time for you.
We lost our lovely Cocker Spaniel a few months ago and understand how you feel.
Be gentle on yourself or the next few days. You will probably find an element of relief - the rhythm of home will change for a while.
They can’t stay with us forever…we wish they could, but you will be comforted by the knowledge that your lovely boy had a good and happy life.
Sending you my love. X

He's a fellow spaniel, a springer. The vet is coming here. She's highly recommended so I'm hoping it will be peaceful for him.

Oh I’m sorry OP, they really don’t get long enough on this earth

your description of him this evening really got me, what a beautiful end to what I’m sure has been a beautiful life

Buildingthefuture · 04/02/2026 22:57

I’m so sorry op. I’ve done it, more times than I can count. It always awful but I do think being at home is best for them. Mine have always passed peacefully at home.
And, I strongly believe, it’s the last gift we can give them, after a lifetime of love and loyalty. We don’t let them suffer, we do whatever we can to ensure they have a peaceful goodbye, surrounded by the people that love them. Lots of love to you and your boy xx

So much love to you and your boy xx

Quick update: vet was fabulous and very kind. Our boy drifted off on our laps, distracted by morsels of sausage, we took hair clippings and paw prints. My husband carried him out to the vet's car in his favourite blanket, wrapped up like a burrito. We are heartbroken but it was a peaceful and kind end after a long and well-lived life 💔

Lost my soul dog last year, but similarly to you, the ending was calm and she was in our beloved garden with family holding and stroking her after she'd had a feast of fresh salmon and steak. It was as peaceful and gentle as could've hoped for, but I know the heartbreak is still there and will be for some time to come, if not forever, I know mine is. Kinda wish my own end could be as gentle and love filled really when it comes.
Hugs to you xx

I’ve been thinking about you today.
How lucky he was to be given such a happy life with you.
Sending you my love. X

So sorry. Well done for being brave and doing right by your dog until the very end. Be kind to yourself xx
