Please help me feel better about what I have done to my poor dog

I feel like the worst human ever to her at the moment. She scratched herself last night, and drew blood, on her face/cheekbone. I noticed the gash this morning and went straight out to buy a soft cone of shame and some anti microbial spray from the vet.

She is just wandering about, bashing into door frames and misjudging jumps with this thing on and looking at me with her big sad brown eyes, probably thinking "I guess this is my life now." She doesnt know it's temporary does she 😢

Separately, should i keep it on 24/7 or will that stress her out and delay healing? I've heard the exact opposite conflicting advice which is...not helpful. Obvs night time it is on and non negotiable.

Was she continuing to scratch it OP?

The cones are to stop them fiddling with it. If she’s leaving it be she doesn’t need the cone.

Maybe just pop it on when she’s left alone?

Did the vet recommend the cone? If a clean-out was the only treatment needed perhaps it is unnecessary?

EDIT: Aren't they more likely to be needed when licking/gnawing is a problem, which isn't the issue that a cone would resolve in this case

Yeah she was wanting to scratch it - it is under her ear - popular good scratch area at the best of times!

If it helps, I once stabbed my cat with a pointy instrument designed to detangle matted fur, she was long haired and despite me constantly grooming her she got patches of matting.
Not only did I stab her but I then made a sawing motion and basically sliced her skin 😬
It was horrendous, trip to the vet, stitches etc.
So I think you can cut yourself some slack, in your case you're doing the right thing ❤️
Your ddog will still love you, my cat still loved me!

My dog doesn’t understand why I’m acting so mean- not only did I take her to the bad place last week (vets) she’s now on a diet and she’d just convinced teenage DS to give her some bacon fat when I intervened and the perfectly good fat went in the bin. Evil - that’s was my poor dog is dealing with.
