Looking for recommendations for a good collar, what is everyone using for a medium/large sized dog? I don’t really trust plastic buckles and had a leather one snap on a walk. Has anyone had a Ruffwear one?

I’ve always used ruffwear they’re brilliant and go through the wash too.

Good old fashioned Leather and brass buckle. I have mine from Pear Tannery.

ETA the quality is very fine, and I'd find it hard to imagine one snapping! What was the leather one you used that snapped?

We have a red fabric FIDA collar with a metal buckle. It’s been really good.

Can't go wrong with a Ruffwear one - I have had the same one for YEARS - used by 2 dogs! My late dog had a Pampeano one - very nice, well made leather that I would be surprised if it would snap - but £££!

Another vote for ruffwear here

Mine is a sighthound so has a proper leather sighthound collar from https://www.hideandcollars.co.uk/. I don’t like the look of fabric collars but would probably get one if I can a dog that liked to get mucky or swim! My dog turns his long nose up at dirt… unless it’s something dead and smelly.

My Labradors have had rolled leather ones. They don't flatten their coat and are easy-care, a wipe with saddle soap or leather cream once in a while.

Thanks all, some good ideas to check out.

I have wonderful hand stitched leather collars (and leads) from Essenjay. Not cheap but amazing quality that will last and last.

I use the ruffwear web reaction collar for my pup and really rate it and have just purchased the next size up for him too. He is a breed whose neck is wider than head which is why we chose this range rather than the more popular Front Range or Hi and Light which are cheaper and have better colours! We also have a couple of ruffwear leads via Vinted that are firm favourites.

I think the materials they use are really good quality compared to most cheaper options we’ve had.
