Steps for elderly dog?

We have an elderly beagle. His back end is weakening a bit now (and his lifelong love of food means he’s ‘sturdy’)

thinking of being proactive and getting some little steps so he can still access the sofa. I’m thinking of doing it now before he ‘needs’ to. He has plush dog beds but loves the sofa.

has anyone had any success? Any recommendations? I think maybe they’re more popular now for dachshunds?

thankyou

Thank you. I love this photo.

Does your dog walk up the steps or sort of ‘bounce’? 🙂

Our elderly Airedale was having trouble jumping up to get in the back of the car. I tried him on a fellow dog walkers ramp and he walked up it no trouble at all. So I spent £120 on a ramp for him. He refused to use it.

@doggostepping The 10 year old runs/bounces up and walks down. The 4 year old leaps over it. And the puppy walks nicely up and down.

For our Cavalier who was struggling to jump we bought steps for the bed and steps for the sofa which they use no problem.

We also have a dog bed in the shape of a chair, which we put in front of the sofa and she uses that as a platform to jump up from.

I bought a foldable caravan step for my old dog for the car because he was a big dog and he used that fine, I had to cover it in carpet though!

@GammaGamma sorry I did chuckle. My beagle has a stubborn streak so I can imagine he might protest in a similar fashion.

We also have an unusually bouncy greyhound so there’s a chance the whole steps idea will be an insult to the beagle and a nice challenge for the greyhound to leap.
