Not tagging anyone. I'm sure you'll all find your way here if you want to join in. 😁

Also it’s £20 cheaper than Millie’s!! Maybe he will get on with it enough to switch and save me £££

It's very reasonably priced. It works out about 70p a kg cheaper than Country Kibble, so I was going to switch to it. Unfortunately the postage to Scotland was extortionate and made it dearer.

I ran out of N's food a few days ago, so she's having CK with the other pair. PAH said it was next day delivery. So far all they've sent is messages saying it's been delayed. Damn snow!

I hope V gets on with it OK. I feed the turkey and cranberry flavour, and I know C&T rates the lamb one for Brie.

Thanks @tizwozliz will check that out too!

YorkshireFelix · 11/01/2026 11:37

@SpanielsGalore oh noooo that’s frustrating. I always forget how difficult it is for postage and extra costs in Scotland. My dsis lives in Oban and many shops class that as highlands and there’s loads of stuff she either can’t get delivered or it costs an absolute fortune.

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 11/01/2026 11:43

@Struckbylightningdo you think she'll bulk out a bit (like retrievers do) or will she always be quite slim? I rarely see a fat border collie, but not sure if that's because of the sorts of people who own them or because the breed is naturally very slim...

Lovely and icy cold here today so we were able to go into the woods which we haven't been able to brave for a while as it was too boggy, but it's been so cold all the mud has frozen. I still feel absolutely rotten, but did manage to face half a bacon and cheese muffin and a few mouthfuls of coffee. I probably should take a few days off dog walking, but honestly I'll go completely insane if I just stay inside not able to do anything 😩 Hope everyone else had similarly nice morning walks!

SpanielsGalore · 11/01/2026 12:27

@YorkshireFelix That's ridiculous. Oban is even further south than me. I'm not The Highlands either and have an Aberdeen postcode, so it is hit and miss with postage. I think Jollyes were charging £15 delivery on a bag of food costing £39. Whereas Country Kibble deliver for free.

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks Sorry you're still feeling poorly. Have you converted to drinking tea yet?

We haven't been out yet, as we've been battered by a storm this morning. So instead of being snowed in, the roads are now flooding. It's dying down now, so hopefully we'll get out this afternoon.

Weather is grim here, such a compete contrast to yesterday. Its raining and warming up though so hopefully get rid of some of the snow and ice that's still about.

Just keeping my fingers crossed that our power doesn't go out. Theres a power outage reported affecting our postcode, our power is still on but lights keep flickering.

Soggy doggies after this mornings walk

Silverbirchleaf · 11/01/2026 14:30

@tizwozliz I love a soggy doggy photograph. He’s a handsome lab. Always thought ‘Soggy Doggy’ would make a good name fur a dog groomers.

Had a dog-free walk (due to the car issues) with dh in Whistable this morning. Walked to the end of the spit, which only appears when there’s a really low tide, and nice hot chocolate and cake in local hotel. Fortunately warmer than yesterday, which was freezing.

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 11/01/2026 17:03

@SpanielsGalore not yet feeling bad enough that I can face tea. But I have taken to eating chocolate coated coffee beans as I was worried I was getting caffeine withdrawals - and yes, I am being very dramatic😂 I feel i've earnt it as even Clem has been nice to me...which is definitely an indicator I am sick.

Did you manage to take the girls out?

@tizwozliz Will keep my fingers crossed your power doesn't go out!!

@Silverbirchleaf ohhhh I love a good hot chocolate. Whipped cream? Marshmallows?

Has anyone watched 'The Rookie'? Thinking I might start it this evening. Loved Nathan Fillion in 'Castle' and heard good things about 'The Rookie' so figured it's worth a shot as I'm a bit bored with the 'Chicago' series.

Silverbirchleaf · 11/01/2026 17:24

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks Nope, no marshmallows or cream, so I saved a few calories there (if you ignore the Victoria sponge cake I ate!).

SpanielsGalore · 11/01/2026 17:49

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks I decided to take K to the woods and leave the other pair at home. P has probably overdone it over the last few days, so I thought she could probably do with a rest day.

Not watched The Rookie. I have been tempted to watch Castle, so will give that a go since ohare recommending it. Chicago Fire got a bit to centred around Stella for me towards the end. Well, the end of the free to watch series. I'm watching Ozark at the minute. Jason Bateman is fairly easy on the eye. Although I quite liked Del.

Can't believe the difference in weather to last night. When we went outside for bedtime wees, the ground was covered in snow and ice. It's completely gone now.

OP posts:
YorkshireFelix · 11/01/2026 19:24

Weather has been bizarre hasn’t it. 9pm last night was -3 and 9pm tonight is going to be 9 degrees!

I got the Lifestage salmon in the end. It compares ingredients wise with Millie’s so if he gets on with it will switch as it’s a third cheaper. He wolfed it down tonight but to be fair he would wolf anything down!!

We’ve got our first hydrotherapy session tomorrow which will be interesting, considering he is scared of everything and does like water 😄

Struckbylightning · 11/01/2026 20:16

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks, she might bulk out a little bit, she is very slim, but her mother was also leggy and thin. Our previous collie was a little bit chunky, but she was long haired and it was mostly fluff.

Sorry you are still ill. Is it this nasty flu which is going around?

Struckbylightning · 11/01/2026 20:26

I haven’t watched the Rookie. I’m busy watching the 2nd series of Red Eye..

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 12/01/2026 10:13

@Silverbirchleaf Ohhh you'll have to have another one with marshmallows and cream...so you can compare them 😁You've made me crave a Victoria sponge now though but my local bakery only does them with strawberry jam and I am a raspberry jam person.

@SpanielsGalore I hope K was good and there were no pesky deer about!

That's sort of the issue I am having with Chicago Fire. I don't really like the actress that plays Stella (or the actor that played Matt Casey) and every time they come on screen I just want to fast forward.

Tagging @Struckbylightning as I can confirm the Rookie was quite good. Watched 4 episodes in the end. It's all quite fluffy (i.e. not like Criminal Minds or Chicago PD) so it's easy watching.

@Struckbylightning I'm not sure if it's the flu, as I can still dog walk and WFH. But once I dog walk that's it, I'm wiped out for the day! I'm well enough to work but not going into the office as I don't like people who spread the lurgy...

That makes sense re. her staying a bit slimmer, she doesn't really look like she has the build to turn very muscular but never know!

@YorkshireFelix let us know how the hydrotherapy goes (and if there's a photo of V from it...even better!) 😁

SpanielsGalore · 12/01/2026 10:38

@YorkshireFelix Glad V liked the food. Hopefully it likes him (💩) and you can save a bit of money in the future. I hope he gets on alright at hydrotherapy. Mine only go in water if there are birds involved.

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks How do you manage with three big dogs on the bed? P has randomly decided to join us for the past two nights. The first time, I had a dog either side, weighting down the quilt so it felt like I was sleeping in a straight jacket. Last night, she jumped on the bed around 5 a.m. K clambered over me to investigate. So P slept across my pillow, hogging half of the bed. K slept diagonally alongside her. And I ended up teetering on the edge. .

N's food is still delayed, but the new bed for the kitchen is arriving today. For some reason, they are being delivered by different couriers.

K has the second part of her vaccinations today. I shall get her weighed whilst we're there. She's felt positively heavy yesterday. 😂

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 12/01/2026 14:33

@SpanielsGalore super-king size bed! It's a bit of a squeeze now DH is back, but before that it was fine so I might have to tell him to bugger off again. It's 6ft long, and as I'm only 5,5 and tend to curl up in a ball to sleep there's loads of space by my feet so Pen/Hen typically sleep at the bottom of the bed. Twatdog sleeps next to me, but back to me so I often end up spooning him although with DH home that's mostly meant he's been sleeping with his paws on DH face/stomach. 😂

Why do you think P has decided to join you in bed? Tbh I am surprised you didn't make them get off, get yourself comfortable, and then let yourself back on!

How does the new bed look? Ohhh let us know how chunky K is! Bet she's still absolutely tiny😀

tizwozliz · 12/01/2026 16:34

Weather is just mad at the moment. Yesterday it was -3 in the day and then 7 degrees when we went to bed. Nearly all the snow has gone, only the responsible people who cleared their drives have any left. I left off the thermal tights and fleece for our lunchtime walk and was still too hot.

YorkshireFelix · 12/01/2026 18:16

Hydrotherapy went surprisingly well! He wasn’t particularly happy about it and grumbled a bit but he did a good job. The physio said 1 minute of walking on the treadmill = 1 mile of normal walking energy-wise which is crazy to me. He’s been sparko all day since so it must have worn him out.

SpanielsGalore · 12/01/2026 22:12

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks Ah that's where I am going wrong. I only have a double bed. There's no way I could make P get off so I could get comfortable. She'd never get back on. 😭

K is indeed a chunky monkey and weighed in at a whopping 8.9kg.

I've been delaying replying to you all day, because I didn't want to admit you were right. The bed arrived and the little buggers won't use it. 😂 It's a waterproof one and more squishy than the other beds. They've all stepped in it, but got back out. I didn't know whether it was the scratchy surface or the puffy mattress that was putting them off. So I covered it with a blanket and we had success.

@tizwozliz I was seriously over dressed for my lunch time walk with K too. We've gone from -5 to 8°. Can't believe how quickly the snow has disappeared.

@YorkshireFelix Glad physiotherapy went reasonably well. Did V go on the water treadmill rather than in the pool? P hated the treadmill and cried the whole time. It was before her operation though, and she couldn't move her bad leg quickly enough to keep up with the moving belt.

OP posts:
YorkshireFelix · 12/01/2026 23:54

@SpanielsGalore haha they are buggers aren’t they. I dread to think how much we have all probably spent on random stuff that the dogs decided they don’t like!

Yes it was treadmill. There’s no way we’d be able to get him in a pool I don’t think! I bribed him to walk with a tube of stinky Arden Grange Turkey paste and he did actually take it so he must have felt ok about the whole thing despite the whinging. Usually when he’s stressed he won’t take a treat or respond to anything at all. We’re going to alternate hydro and laser/physio every 2 weeks so he should be in as good shape as he can be going forward!

Silverbirchleaf · 13/01/2026 10:25

@SpanielsGalore Snug as a bug in a rug.

tizwozliz · 13/01/2026 10:53

@SpanielsGalore Mine, well older one at least, doesn't like the scratchy slightly slidy material of those sorts of beds. I'm very glad I found out before spending money on a tuffies bed.

Found out the hard way with a hi k9 bed, that she doesn't like it if things move too much when she steps on.

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 13/01/2026 12:17

@SpanielsGalore - time to upgrade to the Super King 😀It's one of my key criteria for holiday cottages as well - if it doesn't have a super-king bed, then we're not going (and yes I know technically most say you shouldn't have dogs upstairs, but quite frankly everyone does and the linens are changed...).

Ohh K is so tiny. 😍Hard to believe that one of my monsters weighs about the same as K does when they're only 8-9 weeks old .

Well you figured out how to get them into the bed in the end, although I still maintain fish and chips would have been a brilliant use of the money 😂

@YorkshireFelix glad it went well for Vinny! Is he still being a good boy more broadly? No more naughtyness?

I managed to get the dogs out this morning before it began throwing it down. Had just wrangled Twatdog (who is once again refusing to jump into the car without me picking him up and walking him over on his hand legs with my arms around hid middle) into the car before the rain started, so I am feeling very smug. It's been hammering all day though so I think that'll be wood walks done for a while as it's mostly clay-heavy soil in the woods 😭

SpanielsGalore · 13/01/2026 14:05

@tizwozliz Fortunately this bed was reduced to £16, so I've not wasted too much money. Unlike when I too bought a Hi K9 bed. My sprocker used it about three times and now all the girls ignore it.
