Not tagging anyone. I'm sure you'll all find your way here if you want to join in. 😁

Here’s some photos showing what the area looked like before the COP was built, compared to now

@SpanielsGalore sorry to hear crate rest isn’t going well. The thought of Merry being on bed rest fills me with horror, it must be very stressful! But hopefully it will all be worth it when she is all healed up.

I don’t do sports at all, either playing or watching. I just feel like those winter sports people are nuts, it all looks horribly dangerous! I think Merry would give anything a go. She’d probably be rubbish, but make up for it with enthusiasm. Is trampolining a sport? She is really amazing at jumping- she does a four footed sideways jump from standing onto the furniture, and from sofa to sofa. She’s also super fast, as you would expect from a collie.

Bupster · 20/02/2026 18:58

Bill's daycare has folded but we've been lucky enough to find someone who can take him on Mondays when I'm teaching - her spaniel is called Brian. He's not quite sure about Bill yet, but I'm desperate for them to get on. Not just because it will mean I don't get sacked, but also because I can just imagine them in a shed drinking orange tea and arguing about the best way to get from here to the M4.

YorkshireFelix · 20/02/2026 19:19

Bill and Brian! I love that. Sorry to hear about the daycare @Bupster that must be so stressful. I know he loved going there.

I’m not a sports person either but I do like to watch the figure skating as I find it mesmerising.

SpanielsGalore · 21/02/2026 10:56

@YorkshireFelix P is on a lead whenever she's out of the crate. Unfortunately it doesn't stop her bouncing around. And she knows I have to pick her up to carry her down the steps, so she stands on her back legs for me. 🙈

I sent photos and videos of P walking to the orthopaedic vet yesterday. She's pleased with her progress so far. She's also added Gabapentin into the meds to see if it helps to keep P a bit calmer.

She's managed to lick the back of her leg, so that's now red and sore. Fortunately I have Isaderm ointment from last time she did it.

I’m trying to imagine Rory on ice skates 🤣🤣 he really is the clumsiest dog ever!

He did his first big boy wee today! At 9 months, I thought he was going to be peeing like a girl forever 🤣.

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 21/02/2026 13:31

@YorkshireFelix I got some deserts at 50% off, all of which were eaten, and some 30% off steak which was also eaten. 😍I really can't resist a discount!

@SpanielsGalore Oh he is. He's also my least favourite as he's a twat😂

They try to avoid doing it when they're so young, but with so much water and open land near me it's just safer for them to have the vaccinations.

Sorry to hear P is struggling. I hope she's feeling a bit better today.

I agree with your theory on three types of Spaniels. Although Satan, as a Show Cocker, takes exception to being compared unfavourably to her working counterparts - she says she's a very old woman now, and can still keep up with Twatdog. She's basically a Working Cocker Spaniel (she claims).

@Struckbylightning trampolining is an Olympic sport! So yes, we can enlist Merry in that 😁

@MooseBeTimeForSnow I have to say it looked better before! 😞I know homes are needed everywhere, but I always get sad when I see the effect it has on rural areas.

@Bupster glad you've managed to find someone who can take Bill - although you realise I would have done it for free!? I know it's a bit of a trip...but still.

@Idstillratherbepaddleboarding Do you think he'll regress? Twatdog still does sometimes - whenever he's tired near the end of the walk he squats to wee. Bless him.

I'm so excited for tonight's curling, I've planned a dinner that won't interrupt it. DDs, DDogs and DH have been told that if they interrupt my enjoyment of it then none of them are getting Easter Eggs.

To be honest, I'm still in shock we have 3 Golds. I don't know why, I just don't expect us to ever do well at sports.

Silverbirchleaf · 21/02/2026 14:25

After the early failed medal hopes in figure skating and curling, I thought it was going to be one of those years, when we didn’t quite succeed, but the skeleton changed all that.

Read yesterday that in 1932, there was a demonstration sport of dog sledding. Think we need to revive that!

VanGoSunflowers · 22/02/2026 08:15

@Struckbylightning Pablo did his first big boy wee at 9 months too. Although he still squats to wee in the garden if he needs to go!

Hope everyone is all good. I have been nursing a nasty cold the past few days but pupper has been looking after me. He’s been a bit clingier than usual and the other morning I could swear he was actually trying to stop me from getting out of bed!

Silverbirchleaf · 22/02/2026 11:28

Welcome to the world of manhood, Rory. Don’t mind admitting that I didn’t realise that dogs don’t pee like that from the word go (first time dog owner).

Bupster · 22/02/2026 19:20

Ears!

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks I might not have anyone yet - the nice lady's spaniel is definitely not quite sure about Bill - but it might be a bit too much of a commute.

Not that I wouldn't be willing to try. After today, when like a muppet I grabbed hold of his long line as he was disappearing downhill and he pulled me over face first into the mud, I think I could have cheerfully yeeted him into next week. Once I'd finished yelling, and muttering, and dusting myself off, and resigning myself to walking back to the car with one brown bosom where I'd landed it in a puddle, he came trotting back, like 'where were you? there was a brilliant pigeon, you missed it!' Nobhead 😄

Silverbirchleaf · 22/02/2026 19:25

Those ears are amazing - so silky.

Struckbylightning · 22/02/2026 22:39

Oh no @Bupster, sorry but that did make me laugh. Walk of shame with one muddy boob! Good job they are cute, makes it harder to commit violence.

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 23/02/2026 09:54

@VanGoSunflowers how are you feeling today? Hope you're feeling a bit better ❤

@Bupster Ohhh bless Bill. I'm sure if he realised he nearly assassinated you he'd have been far more apologetic than he was😁It does sound like he's getting a lot better though? Even if he is an excited git who seems determined to assassinate you at a moments notice.

In all your photos of him he always looks like a bit of a maniac. 😍

Hope everyone had a good morning walk! Twatdog and I had a bit of a disagreement as he refused to eat his breakfast (I'd put his Bravecto tablet in it), and then tried to push DWS out of the way of her bowl to et her food!!! So he was told off quite sharply and called a bad dog. And then I stood next to him and made him eat his entire bowl, broken up Bravecto table included, and wouldn't let him go to the other bowls until he was done. I felt a bit like a parent forcing their child to eat chard. 😂

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 23/02/2026 09:55

This was him just after he was called a bad dog.

And yes, when I work from home I do change and dog walk and then shower and put pyjamas on for the rest of the day. 😳

Silverbirchleaf · 23/02/2026 17:39

He’s not a happy bunny!

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 24/02/2026 05:02

More snow. And Rundle

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 24/02/2026 05:03

Duh. Try again

Beyond Adolescence and General Chit Chat - part 3
TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 24/02/2026 08:39

@MooseBeTimeForSnow are you sure you don't want to swap a Rundle for a Twatdog?

@Silverbirchleaf he gets very sulky if he is told off! I think it's because I overcompensated when he was a puppy (I never meant to keep him, but his family pulled out and I couldn't bring myself to sell him after that) and never told him off and coddled him.

@SpanielsGalore how is P doing?

Hope everyone has nice plans for the day! Not rainy here, although the woods and fields are just not workable, so we were up super early walking at Knole. Not great as it's dogs on leads, but at least they came back mostly dry. I cannot wait for summer

Silverbirchleaf · 24/02/2026 10:43

Went for a half- and half- walk today, half woods and half streets with a friend and her dog. A little muddy in parts. But getting excited. Reports of 14 degrees today and the heady heights of 16 tomorrow!

@MooseBeTimeForSnow What a fab photo.

SpanielsGalore · 24/02/2026 11:22

Fourth attempt at posting. 🤦‍♀️

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks Glad you had a nice dry walk for a change.

P is struggling with crate rest. Mornings are alright as she sleeps anyway. But afternoons are spent whining and squealing to be let out. And when I do go to le her out, she bounces and jumps around and charges out of the door.
I spoke to the vet yesterday. She said the toilet trips can be 5 minutes long and don't have to be in the garden. So we'll do a couple of walks to the patch of grass at the end of the road today. The cone came off this morning, so she'll now be able to have chews, licky mats and stuffed kongs to help pass the time. Hopefully those things will help her cope a little better.

I am enjoying my solo walks with K. Training is coming along nicely. She'll randomly come and walk to heel whilst we're in the woods, looking up at me for a treat.
She's missing her playmate though.

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 24/02/2026 13:11

@SpanielsGalore oh bless her! She's clearly struggling💔Is there any medication you can give her to make her a bit sleepier or would that not help?

That being said, I am not sure what is more beautiful...the way her and K are booping snouts or the wallpaper which tbh is stunning (where's it from!?). As you say though, it looks like K really misses her partner in crime.

Will keep my fingers crossed for P's speedy recovery and for K not being a total turd when P is finally able to rejoin her on walks.

@Silverbirchleaf same! 15 here tomorrow. DH and I have been engaging in 'heating wars.' He turns it on. I turn it off and open the doors. He turns the heating on. I turn it off and open the doors more widely. How anyone can think you need the heating on when the temperature is in double digits!

Did your boy enjoy a walk with a friend? Or did he just ignore the other dog?

Silverbirchleaf · 24/02/2026 14:46

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks I think he quite enjoyed it. We’ve done a few walks together now. The only issue is that the other dog has quite a physical greeting - pawing, which Dog doesn’t like, but once we’re over that they’re generally fine. It’s like someone who greets you with a big hug, meeting someone who doesn’t like such physical contact. Then they’ll either run alongside each other, with a bit of play, or go off exploring on their own.

Silverbirchleaf · 24/02/2026 14:47

@SpanielsGalore That is such a sweet, tender photo.

Struckbylightning · 24/02/2026 17:10

It’s actually really sunny here today and didn’t rain, not even a little bit! It’s so wonderful to have blue skies. Sadly I had work so it wasn’t as long a walk as I would have liked. But the crocuses are out as well as daffodils so it really feels like Spring finally.

Merry is doing really well, though she is getting a bit obsessive about having something to ‘do’. I would rather she sometimes just walked and ran about, so I don’t take a ball or toy, but she will pick up a stick instead. I guess it comes with the collie territory, or maybe if I persist with ignoring she will stop. I’m not sure what to do for best.
