Not tagging anyone. I'm sure you'll all find your way here if you want to join in. 😁

I'm not sure it was something I knew before the breeder mentioned it.

But after hearing a few people having to restart courses or having delayed vaccinations it's something i mention if someone asks a "what to ask the breeder" type thread.

Ours were both out and about on the ground just before 12 weeks and those 3.5 weeks felt long enough. I've heard of people having to wait 6 weeks!

SpanielsGalore · 18/02/2026 18:23

Mine both had Lepto 2 vaccinations, so were out for walks by 11.5 weeks old. I appreciate that would be later now the vets have switched to Lepto 4.

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks Do you vaccinate puppies at 7 weeks old?

You lot can threaten your dogs with rehoming. I threaten P with a slice of bread. 😂 Just reaching towards the bread bin made her run and hide, so that and the toaster went.
I popped in to see DS when I dropped P at the vets last Friday. He made me tea and toast in exchange for the Millionaire Shortbread. It was a real treat. 😂

I read the sheep thread when it started, but haven't been back so have missed the updates. Honestly, what do people get out of making stuff up?

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks @YorkshireFelix I see your Frank and Colin and raise you Rory’s friend Jeffrey (Jeff for short). I don’t know the owner as he belongs to a friend of a friend but I wonder what they make of all the Jeffrey Epstein stuff at the moment!

I know a few Franks but they’re all Jack Russell’s so very different to a Bernese.

He is a beauty!

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 19/02/2026 10:05

@MooseBeTimeForSnow what a beauty. I don't suppose you fancy a swap? I can offer you a choice of four Golden Retrievers.... my eldest isn't for sale as she's my soulmate.

@Idstillratherbepaddleboarding Jeff is such a good name for a dog, although I agree slightly unfortunate now.

@SpanielsGalore I usually vaccinate between week 6 and 7. That way they're only home for two weeks before they can get out and about. But it's also a caution part as we back onto the woods and fields plus there's lots of rivers nearby, and the puppies are out in the garden (which is prone to getting all manner of wildlife and the occasional dog that has managed to get through the fence) quite a lot from week 6. With DWS litter, because it was such a warm summer, they were out and about in the garden for about 12 hours a day from 6 weeks old.

I bet that tea and toast, stress free (relatively speaking) was glorious!

I gave Twatdog a new elephant this morning and he's already ripped an arm off. I'm starting to wonder if he thinks he's a Mali 🙄He looks far too smug when he's scattered stuffing everywhere!

Silverbirchleaf · 19/02/2026 11:16

@MooseBeTimeForSnow Lovely photos.

On the basis of the Canadian bandana, and the name ‘Moose’’ are you Canadian and/or living in Canada? Loved watching your ice hockey team.

However much I hate snow (or the ice and inconvenience it causes), I do like looking at snowy pictures, and am loving the Winter Olympics (the women doing the aerial skiing somersaults - why?!). Your dogs are lovely.

We have lots of old man name dogs in our areas. Can I raise you Stan?

Struckbylightning · 19/02/2026 12:50

I met a dog called Boris yesterday. It really suited him too. He was blonde and unkempt and bumbling. He also tried to mount Merry, dirty old bugger…

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 19/02/2026 13:21

@Struckbylightning that made me cackle. Merry is very pretty though, so really I don't think we can blame Boris - dogs will be dogs. Literally dogs in this case 😁

@Silverbirchleaf did you watch the two person luge!? Absolutely insane. I've done some pretty hair-raising things in my time, but that takes the biscuit!

Stan is a great name 😂

Silverbirchleaf · 19/02/2026 13:41

No, not seen any luge this year.

Wonder what winter Olympic sports our dogs would be good at?

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 19/02/2026 16:54

I moved from the UK 15 years ago. Rundle is named after the mountain range between Canmore and Banff. Jasper is a popular dog name here, not unsurprisingly.

i have tried to embrace winter sports - I’ve had a hip replacement, so I’m very much a green skier and I broke my wrist trying to learn to ice skate.

We drive past the Calgary Olympic Park on our way into the mountains. The small hill is still being used but the big hill is not. I think you can hold corporate events up there. The bobsled track has been dismantled. It was still there in 2016 but some teens broke in - twin brothers were killed and six others injured when they collided with a gate across the track.

My WTF event was moguls but it has just been superseded by SkiMo.

I can’t imagine the outrage there would have been here if Canada lost to Czechia and their six men on the ice. Echoes of Maradona in ‘86. Edmonton is our nearest city (4.5 hour drive), so we are McDavid supporters.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 19/02/2026 16:59

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks I’m tempted! I have a soft spot for Goldens. There’s one near us whose owner kits him out in a yellow anorak and boots when it rains.

I tried using boots on Rundle once. I swear he was levitating. We use paw wax instead and wash his feet after walks. He won’t like me for sharing this - we call it his pawdicure ..

Calgary wanted to bid for 2026 but they put it to a vote back in 2018 and the residents said no.

Silverbirchleaf · 19/02/2026 21:34

@MooseBeTimeForSnow Sorry you didn’t win the ice hockey. The whole of Canada must have let out a collective groan when that goal went in, within the last couple of minutes of the game.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 19/02/2026 22:46

@Silverbirchleaf gutted. I hope the men bring it home!

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 20/02/2026 09:40

@MooseBeTimeForSnow I bet that Golden looks adorable with the matching coat and boots! 😍

Rundle really is absolutely stunning.

I have to say, as much as I love the Winter Olympics, the only sport I would ever take up is curling. I spend so much time sweeping up dog fur I feel like I probably have strong enough arms for it anyway...

I do say this as a jest, how is 'boop-gate' going down in Canada? 😃I'm so excited for the final this weekend because I am a total loser.

Why did Calgary residents say no to 2026?

@Silverbirchleaf I feel like the Spaniels would be excellent at cross-country skiing as they're quite light on their feet so could definitely get through the snow easily.

I think K & P (when at peak fitness) would probably be excellent at speed skiing given what @SpanielsGalore says about their stamina and ability to run around for hours.

I've got to say though, I think the Labradors and Golden Retrievers might be quite well suited to the Ice Hockey? They're very good at barging into people and ice-hockey players are typically quite large.

Hope everyone had good morning walks today! It's not raining again so we had a lovely wander around the woods and fields and everyone was very well behaved. I had to drop DDs at school again as even though it's half-term they still have sports clubs and practice, so I took the opportunity to head into town and try and scoop up the last of the Valentines goodies. There's nothing more exciting than bargain food shops. 😳

Silverbirchleaf · 20/02/2026 10:37

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks Yes, spaniels would definitely be the cross country skiers.

Labs and retrievers definitely have the build and rufty- tufts-ness for ice hockey. They do like a ball (puck) as well.

Bill would be our team’s flag bearer, obviously.

YorkshireFelix · 20/02/2026 10:53

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks did you get any good bargains? Drizzly again here today 🙄

SpanielsGalore · 20/02/2026 11:59

Morning. P is not coping with crate rest this time round. She spent most of yesterday whining and squealing to be let out. And despite being on sedatives, she bounces around like an absolute loon when she's allowed out. And then I end up telling her off, because I'm worried she'll damage her leg. Pretty sure I caught her licking her wound yesterday too, despite wearing a cone. Only 5 weeks to go. 😫

Funnily enough, I was only thinking the other day if I got a dog I'd call him Stanley. 😂

Can't comment on the Winer Olympic sports as I haven't watched any. But for summer sports, I often think my pair would be the sprinters. K in particular is extremely fast. It's rare we meet a dog who can keep up with her.

I have a theory (based on nothing) that working cockers come in three different types.
Trialling kennels = bred for short bursts of speed = sprinters
Working kennels = bred for stamina to work all day = marathon runners
Pet bred = bred for money with watered down energy levels. Might as well be show cockers. 🙈 😂

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks I thought TD was your favourite.
I didn't know you could vaccinate as young as 6 weeks. Makes sense though. Especially now it's a 4 week gap between doses.
My first pair were vaccinated at 7 weeks with the breeder and 9 weeks with me, so were out at 10 weeks.
Hope you got some more Valentine's bargains. I've made a Victoria Sandwich, so am currently forcing down huge slices so I can eat it all before it goes stale.

@YorkshireFelix Raining here again too. Plus, I meant to say the other day - I don't think the size of your house matters for a springer either. The beauty with spaniels is you could live in a mansion and the buggers would still be under your feet.

OP posts:
YorkshireFelix · 20/02/2026 12:49

@SpanielsGalore ha yes that is true actually. MIL house is mahoosive and all the dogs were just following me around and getting in the way regardless.

Sorry P is not coping well. It must be so hard, especially when she’s bouncing about as it’s very difficult to stop them doing it! Could you put her on a short lead inside the house? Not sure if it would work but I’ve seen people recommend it for trying to control mad spaniel puppies and teach them to settle. I know it’s not ideal though.

I think your theory is right. V is very much a sprinter and comes from a trialling kennel.

YorkshireFelix · 20/02/2026 13:00

I just hoovered AND used my upholstery cleaner which V usually goes crackers at, and he just laid in the kitchen on his bed and didn’t even move?!!!

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 20/02/2026 15:34

Boop-gate got some coverage but was swiftly swept to the side with the Czechia 6.

Calgarians said no due to the cost. It was probably a sensible decision. The 88 infrastructure needed massive investment to update it. All of the athletes villages are now permanent housing and in the years since there has been massive growth. The Olympic Park is now hemmed in by even more housing, commercial development and a new ring road.
