Mini poo being a CF - posting for solidarity!!

My mini poodle is being a little errr.. poo.

She is refusing her (usually well received) meals but crying for my food / will happily accept biltong, treats etc.

Obvs I am refusing all human food and treats until she caves and resumes eating but my god!

She refused yesterday's breakfast (bin), refused yesterday's dinner, refused it again when I served it up again for breakfast this morning.

Last night, before bed, I gave her a little biltong as I wondered if she might do that vomiting yellow stuff that dogs do on empty stomachs.

I'm pretty sure she is just trying it on, I sometimes forget how clever and manipulative she probably is. Help me stay strong and not scramble eggs!

Has she recently had a season?

BeQuirkyMintScroller · 03/01/2026 12:55

No, @Wolfiefan she was spayed in September :-)

She gets 10 mins to eat it up before I put the lid back on and put it back in the fridge. I don't encourage, coax or anything, I just put it down, give the release command and leave her to it....

I just ate a cheese roll, not sharing, and she acted like she was a poor abused puppy 😂

I have also started my New Years resolution of never feeding her from my table any more. No big drama at home alone but out and about she therefore expects it and it's embarrassing! Could this be related?

My Mini is a pain in the arse with food. She'll eat Royal Canin poodle blend begrudgingly, but she mainly wants whatever I'm eating. I too want to stop feeding her little treats from my plate. But she will happily refuse all dog food but act like she has been starved if I dare to eat a sandwich. Sorry no actual help, but solidarity!

i wondered about phantom pregnancy.
Could be.

Wolfiefan · 03/01/2026 13:44

Of course a dog will refuse dog food if they think there is a variety of other stuff available. Only feed your dog their food. At meal times. Offer less food than they usually eat and only ever increase when they actually eat it all. Don’t leave food down.

Reminded me of my neighbor who moved in with poodle, I asked her what sort of food she had and she said Oh I just cook for one more!

climbintheback · 03/01/2026 13:47

Our dogs never had dog food when we were kids maybe go back to feeding scraps but not from your plate!

BeQuirkyMintScroller · 03/01/2026 17:35

Another meal refused! I completely and utterly ignored her while i was eating my dinner, though. Despite her desperate nose bops.

Her food was in her bowl... I did my job!

I didn't mind so much [giving her a scrap] when she ate her food as well!
