Adopted dogs first Christmas at home - who’s joining?

This thread may flop or go unseen, but it’s my 10yo adopted ex-race greyhounds first Christmas at home. He was ‘retired’ from racing in 2019 and had been between Dogs Trust and foster homes until I adopted him in May this year. This is his first Christmas in his forever home! I’ve got him a soft squeaky Santa and some nice natural treats (sensitive tummy limits what he can have) and I’m excited for him to experience a nice cosy Christmas at home.

Anyone else spending their first Christmas with their adopted dogs? Pics mandatory! Added some Pickle pictures too!

He's a beauty! And really lovely photos. Merry Christmas to doggo and his people 😀

Happy First Home Christmas beautiful pup!! He has a great face, love greyhounds
Thank you for rescuing him x

SleafordSods · 24/12/2025 10:24

Oh he’s adorable. It turns out our DDog adores Christmas. She will be by far the most excited of us all tomorrow when it comes to unwrapping the presents.

SausageRoll2020 · 24/12/2025 10:26

Well this has the potential to be the best Christmas thread 😍🎄🐕

CMOTDibbler · 24/12/2025 10:27

He’s so lovely! I’m fostering a gorgeous little lurcher girl for EGLR atm, and though she’s not in her forever home this Christmas she does have a stocking, and I hope next Christmas her forever family will be as excited as you are to love her.

And sorry that I can’t put a photo of her on for her security

Frenchfemme · 24/12/2025 10:35

Pickle is gorgeous. You’ve done a lovely thing by adopting him and giving him a great life. Sadly, I am no longer able to have a dog, but I will enjoy sharing the ones on this delightful thread.
eta A very Happy Christmas to all the lovely doggos and their guardians 🎄

WheresMyOtherSock · 24/12/2025 12:28

Thanks for all of the lovely replies!! He’s DD(6) and I’s absolute world, we’re so lucky to have him.

@CMOTDibbler what a lovely thing to do - I hope she enjoyed the contents of her stocking!

Our greyhound had her first Christmas in her forever home aged 3, 5 years ago . Can't believe how quick its gone! A photo of her asleep with her present wrapped up next to her popped up on my Facebook this morning and made me smile. She's a lot greyer looking now but even happier than she was then 🥰

noctilucentcloud · 26/12/2025 12:15

I hope Pickle and all the other doggos had a lovely christmas. My rescue/rehome had his 5th Christmas with me. He enjoyed helping unwrap presents (his and mine!), his small helping of Christmas lunch, a new toy and a walk.

WheresMyOtherSock · 26/12/2025 13:27

How lovely @Whaleandsnail6& @noctilucentcloud! Pickle had a lovely day, didn’t get out of bed until 9:30, had a couple of nice treats and a new toy, a small Christmas lunch and two festive walkies. He’s enjoying his Boxing Day slob too, as am I!

We have 4 rescue spaniels, its the 8 year old springers first Christmas with us but the other 3 have all had their 'firsts' with us, She doesn't like treats so we'll give her an extra cuddle

He’s totally gorgeous. We sill be on our 13th gotcha day with our lurcher on Jan 9th. Sighthounds are the best dogs in the world. Thank you for giving him a home. He will be forever grateful and the best family member.

Dfosterdog and my ddog (on his 12th christmas with us after rehoming) have spent christmas lounging in front of the log burner, getting slipped the odd pig in blanket, and in dfosterdogs case learning to play with squeaky balls in the garden.

It was our little girls first Christmas. She was 3 in October and we adopted her in September. Her brother showed her the ropes as he's done a few now (he turned 12 at the beginning of December). Full Christmas dinner and presents. Absolutely loving it! She did the Christmas markets, presents and got her own decoration. Did clay pawprints yesterday. The pair of them are my absolute world and get spoilt rotten. They've had a steak dinner tonight to celebrate their belated birthdays!

What lovely updates! And it’s so nice to see lots of sighthounds being fostered and adopted! They really are the best breed, not one I’d considered before having Pickle but I don’t think I’d have anything else now! Hoping to adopt more as and when I can throughout my life, particularly the seniors, but I’m hoping I have a good few years left with my old boy Pickle yet!

We lost our much loved 15 year old rescued podengo to cancer on 22 October.

We adopted this lovely boy from our local municipal canil on Halloween. He’s settled in amazingly well, especially considering we have 11 rescue cats. He hasn’t put a foot wrong, is great in the car, sleeps all night, and not a single wee or poo in the house. He’s 12 and has spent a long time in the canil so he’s loving being in his new home at christmas

Lovely thread. Adopted our cocker in April. His first Xmas with us has gone brilliantly. Favourite moment was yesterdays’ big walk on Boxing Day, he absolutely loved running around a huge park surrounded by all the other dogs etc. We live abroad so he doesn’t usually get that sort of big day out and he had the best day. He also is thoroughly enjoying being allowed on the beds at my parents’ house!!! Watching him go to sleep with my son is very wholesome for me. They are as thick as thieves together. Lots of love to all the rescue pups on here xxx

babyproblems · 27/12/2025 08:47

@Costacoffeeplease lovely boy. am also in France with an addiction to rescue dogs.. think we would get on ❤️

Costacoffeeplease · 27/12/2025 08:52

@babyproblems I’m in Portugal, he’s our 7th rescue dog since we moved here 23 years ago, and I’ve no idea how many cats we’ve rescued/fostered. We also feed 6-7 stray cats every evening on our dog walk
