Are there any Swiss-German dog owners on here?

As in, your nationality is Swiss, not a Swiss dog breed!

My mum went to Zurich on holiday in the summer and was hugely impressed by the dogs/dog ownership. She said they were all impeccably behaved. She has a new puppy and I'd love to get her a Swiss-German dog training book. She's fluent in Hoch Deutsch and I know she'd be really interested in the language differences as well as picking up new puppy-raising tips . Can you recommend one please? Ideally by a specialist whose name would be well known (for all the right reasons!) among Swiss-Germans. Thanks!

I don't think it's just about the training. The mentality towards dog ownership is very different in Germany. Firstly you have to pay a dog tax and have a liability insurance. Many areas also require you to have a dog licence that involves training of both dog and owners with a test at the end. Best UK example is probably basic obedience training.

I think if you want to give her the tools for an well behaved dog, check out the Kennel Club for training and advice.

But for language try this guy, he's popular, but not sure about how good he actually is.

PS I use Steffi Rumpf book called Cavalettietraining für Hunde. But it's a bit specialised and very chalk and cheese!

Thank you so much!! I've ordered the book and it should come tomorrow! It looks ideal, even down to the picture with the Collie on the front cover (new pup is a Border Collie). It's really interesting what you say about the dog licence/training requirements. I wish that was a thing here!!

The books by Martin Rütter are very very good, especially the one about dog body language.
