Bichon breeders

After losing both very elderly, much loved, bichons life is pretty miserable. Does anyone know of any ethical health-testing bichon breeders? The club sites are under construction and Champdogs hasn't thrown up many possibilities. I'm anticipating needing to go on a waiting list.

A rescue dog would be wholly unsuitable

Fine to say you only want a puppy, but ridiculous to say a rescue dog would be completely unsuitable. Bichons often come into rescue because their owner has died and have been absolutely doted on.

How in 2025 are people still buying pets, with all the horrific abuse and torture of animals constantly in the press why are you contribute to the production of yet more of these poor little creatures. No one should be exploiting their pets for breeding it is at the very least very unpleasant for a bitch at worse it’s dangerous and stupid. I would say have a long hard look at yourself and think about your values but you won’t, no one ever does

Sigh.

I often think people who post nasty things who have very little knowledge, insight, experience, and add limited value to threads should take a long, hard, look at themselves.

I don't harp on about it though.

Quite. I'm actually coming at this thinking about the life I can provide a dog, to make sure that I can fulfil their needs. I work in the dog world, including with rescues, but apparently I know nothing.

@ejsmith99 Have you check the KC? There's a breeder up ATM with fully health tested dogs with a litter - I haven't checked further (so the test scores could be rotten and the COI could be terrible), but she might be a good start? If she's not near you, then she might be able to point you in the direction of breeders in your area? Lots of breeders are often in contact with each other - at least that how it works for my breed (Goldies) - so she might be able to help?

Contact your local breed club for recommendations. You can find details via the kc website

This is insane.

The breed only exists if enthusiasts breed them.

Out of interest, why would a rescue be wholly unsuitable for someone who works in the dog world and with rescues and is an experienced dog owner?
No worries if you don't want to say, just interested.

Also, surprised you're having to ask on MN when you work in the dog world.
