My beautiful 4 year old German Shepherd is at the vets 0800 tomorrow.
He is having X-rays etc but it’s looks like osteosarcoma with a very poor prognosis
He is absolutely the very best of dogs, so gentle and well behaved; handsome too.
I am in pieces, praying for a better outcome but from what the vet said today it’s unlikely.
He started limping this morning and was seen this afternoon.
How can this happen so quickly? My beautiful best boy was supposed to be around for a good few more years.

I’m sorry for the strictly pictures. Don’t know how I managed that.

I'm so sorry hoping your worst fears aren't realised.

What a gorgeous boy. He looks like a really good cuddle too. How did you get on at the vet this morning?

Wolfiefan · 09/12/2025 17:33

i understand your worry. We lost our five year old wolfhound in May with this awful disease. Everything crossed it’s something else.
If it isn’t then there are options you may be able to consider.

The worst news. My beautiful boy was euthanised this afternoon.
He is at the pet crematorium and I am struggling to process how quickly this has happened.
The vet advised euthanasia as no treatment and likely to be in pain.
He was surrounded by love until the very end but my heart is utterly broken.

you did the hardest, but kindest, thing by letting him go gently.

I've lost three dogs to osteosarcoma. Knowing what I know now I would always let my dog go sooner rather than go through pointless treatment while they are in pain.

you did the loving thing even though it broke your heart.

I am so sorry to read this @caramac04- he looks like the most precious of companions and I can see how much he was loved and meant to you. You’ll be in shock no doubt over how quick this happened. Be kind to yourself. You did what any loving pet parent can do for their furry family member, and that’s be there in the bad times as well as the good.

CarrieMoonbeams · 09/12/2025 21:54

Oh no @caramac04 , I'm so sorry, that's dreadful. Much love to you xx

Wolfiefan · 09/12/2025 22:26

Oh OP I’m so very very sorry. The same happened here. It is an awful awful disease.

TheBeaTgoeson1 · 09/12/2025 23:05

He’s a beautiful wise well loved boy, and even if the worst happens, that is what he is.
