Gift for a dog walker

If you were a dog walker/sitter, what would you appreciate most in terms of toys/stocks as a gift? What do you get through with lots of dogs to cater for/what is appreciated? There will be a gift for the human too...

Poo bags

Fair!
Might be a shout. Are tennis balls useful?

Cash tip in a card (if this is Christmas) then they can choose what to spend it on.

Yes this will also be happening

Not tennis balls. Terrible for dogs teeth. I only use rubber balls with a hole through the middle just in case the ball gets stuck in the dog’s throat -

No - tennis balls are really bad for dogs’ teeth - chuck-it balls or similar are a good shout, though. B&M also sell good quality rubber balls but I can’t remember the brand name - Scooby or something?

I’m a dog walker and the most useful things would be towels, drying coats, poo bags and treats.

Balls are really bad for dogs joints, I don’t think any good dog walker would use them…

HoppityBun · 15/11/2025 08:22

I’d suggest not defining them by their job. Do you know anything about them apart from the fact that they walk dogs and do dog sitting?

Darkchocolatecookies · 15/11/2025 08:35

Contigo mug so there’s always a hot drink left in their van after the walk in the rain

That’s a bit presumptuous - balls are fine when used appropriately and in moderation. I use them on a couple of walks a week with specific dogs only. Balls are only allowed when the dogs have warmed up (so after 15-20 minutes) and then only for a short period. I don’t use ball chuckers, keep the balls low to the ground and make the most of being by the sea so they mostly swim for them.

Warming the dogs up makes no difference. Repetitive strain and jerking stops aren’t good on joints - no amount of warm up, or balls low to the ground, will change that. The dogs still skid which damages their joints. Lots of vets are very anti ball for this reason.

We’ll have to agree to disagree - seeing as you’re a dog walker, I imagine you are rather a fan of balls tbf!

You may have name changed but your distinctive posting style very much gives you away.

FWIW I only use balls with two dogs, and in the water. But you clearly have your incorrect assumptions already 🙄
