So worried and sad

Bella 16 came down with cold symptoms last week lots of sneezing not eating all her food. Made a vets appointment for after the weekend as advised so that's later today. Her sneezing is improved but she seems to have aged really quickly, she's tired, not interested in dog food so I've been cooking meat and veg over the weekend for her to get her to eat, she looks frail and every one day of those sixteen years and I think we might lose her. I know she is 16 and a good age but I'm not ready yet although I won't see her suffer. Any words of wisdom?

I can’t offer any words of wisdom, but just wanted to send a hug and best wishes.
I hope your appointment goes well x

What kind of dog is Bella? Has she done amazingly for her breed/type to reach 16 or is she a good age but not incredibly exceptional?

Friends have an elderly Cardigan Corgi who they've thoght was on his way out several times over the past year, but then he's rallied and perked up. I think elderly dogs - like elderly humans - have times when they're ill and it affects them more than it might affect a younger dog. Bella might just be under the weather.

If not - it's hard to lose them, I know. Dogs are sent to teach us the meaning of unconditional love and they are such excellent teachers. XXX

Back from the vets and largely good news so a huge relief. Bella is a Lhasa apso so a decent age for breed. Early stage kidney disease from blood test they want a urine sample and then to discuss change to diet and medication but it’s early and not an immediate worry. She has lost 500g since her elderly dog check up which is quite a bit as she is only 4.4kg. Vet said lots of these dog viruses about just now and it has hammered her. Heart and liver no issues so no immediate concerns. Paracetamol and something to help with mucus and hopefully she will be on the mend soon. Such a massive relief I’ve been worried sick.

That’s really good news!
