NC because this is outing.

DDog has stage c MVD, 12 years old, incontinent (to the point that they can be laid in a puddle of their own making, or can walk from one room to the next without realising they're toileting...) and has a chest infection. DDog is still happy doing some training, and eating most of their food. However, 8.5 tablets a day, hacking cough and incontinent.

Quality of life is deteriorating. How do you know when it's time?

When QOL is deteriorating and no hope for improving it again, then likely it is time already OP. I'm sorry x

From what you have said the time has come.

I'm sorry, its so hard having to make the decision but it is always better to be too early than too late.

Thank you. We're going to speak to the vets tomorrow, to see if there is anything else we can try. I think we're very much clutching at straws, and we don't want DDog to suffer. We're going to head to one of their favourite (very short) walks today. It's a very heartbroken household today. The DCs have only known life with DDog.

Possibly not helpful but my boy had MVD and the furosemide made him incontinent mainly over night as he just didn't realise he was peeing whilst asleep, but Ii found belly bands with an added Tena lady pad saved him from laying in his pee and having to wash his bedding every day.

MVDSadness · 10/11/2025 11:43

Thank you. It is the furosemide causing the incontinence. I'm happy to do as much washing is needed, but DDog is definitely not as enthusiastic about how much they need to be cleaned.

DDog is enthusiastic about walks and about food and seems full of life at those times. However, Ddog wouldn't be happy wearing a dog nappy and we can't invite Ddog onto the sofa for snuggles because of the urine leak (we're sitting by their bed throughout the day)... It's a really hard line. It doesn't feel right to think about PTS when DDog is so happy at other parts of the day.
