Help to make a paw cover out of tights!

I need to make a paw cover for dog who had surgery on his paw 10 days ago. Bandages are off now to promote the last bit of healing and he need to no lick it so I need to be covered but not bandaged. So he is wearing a sock but comes off and vet tech suggested using tights to fashion a lick sleeve to cover the sock. .

I’ve tried but I can’t get the mechanics rights! I cut one leg off put the injured paw in the full leg and the non injured paw in the cut leg and then cut a hole in the body to go over his head. But it was a bit strained in places so I cut it now it’s too loose and falling down the leg.

Could I put his head through he cut leg?

I basically have to sit on the sofa to stop him walking about and we are on day 10 now!

Try using two individual socks one on each leg and attaching thick elastic to the top of each and tie them together over the shoulder. That will keep them pulled up and you can also loosely loop another piece of elastic through your dogs collar to stop them slipping backwards.
I did this when my old dog got sore elbows it kept the socks in place but the elastic allowed him to move comfortably.

Oh god thank you! you saved me £25 in a dog lick sleeve that may or may not fit!

I have elastic and Basic sewing skills!

My big 35kg dog has giant paws and skinny legs! What kind of socks did you use?

Just old ones of mine it didn’t matter it was a case of padding his elbows.
what would we do with our spare time if we weren’t worrying about our dogs….good thing we love them to bits.
i hope it heals up quickly.

You can buy little rubber, balloon like shoes on Amazon called Pawz, they are the only things we found that stayed on with our last dog who had feet issues, you can also use them outside.

Last year my dog sustained quite a large cut on his paw pad. Took 2-3 weeks to heal. Awful.

Tried many things to keep the wound covered. We must have lost 15+ socks in the garden. But the thing which has worked best was this item from Amazon. Nice and waterproof with a bit of padding for comfort. Tried many many things and this is really the best solution for us. But we only used it to take dog for toilet breaks as we were told keeping the wound dry and exposed to air was best

Thanks everyone!

I did succumb and buy some dog socks and the 1 legged version of the sleeves

his paws are on the mend and now out of bandages and had stitches out Monday. We just need to keep it dry now so dog socks on when he goes out. It is finally healing nicely and not bothering him anymore. The sleeve was £27! So I think I will go back!

it’s been an long traumatic and stressful process and I had a week of work sat on the sofa with dog so he didn’t move about. Very boring
