I'm looking after an elderly relative's elderly collie, We think he's about 12 and he's been with us for 10 month. Since last friday he has a sudden hip/spine injury that's reduced his mobility. I think maybe he jumped up one too many times to snap at our cat (his no.1 favourite activity) and triggered some kind of nerve injury. He can walk but is obviously in a lot of pain unless medicated. Vet prescribed all sorts of anti-inflammatories and pain killers, and today he's been on his feet more than any time in teh last five days. There were times though he could not get up and had some accidents (incontinence?)
I've been able to move the mats and towels he but i'm wondering how i can wash his bum without aggravating his hip.
He freaks if anyone touches his back legs.
I'm thinking about putting a wet towels on top of him and clean towels underneath him and hopefully gravity will help rinse the smelly remains off him. Or maybe a water spray and some towels?
Has anyone dealt with similar situation before and any advice?
