Limber tail

Has anyone else's dog had limber tail? How long did it take to heal and what helped (aside from rest)?

My pup has had it. It only took a couple of days before she was ok again. We gave metacam to help.

Mine has had it - it resolved really quickly for him (within 48 hours) but he did look very sorry for himself! We just did lead walks for a few days but he is such an active enthusiastic dog it was hard to try and keep him calm.

Hope yours improves soon

Thank you both. It has been 2 days for my dog so far but she still looks miserable.

My Cocker had this, I’d never even heard of it and he was howling in pain every time he needed a poo.
The vet gave us Metacam and said it would be better in a week. I found that hard to believe to begin with but after three days it subsided and he was back to normal well within a week.

Apparently seizing in cold water can trigger it but I’ve never been able to identify what caused ours.

About a week for our girl to fully get her wag back. Metacam after two days, as despite rest and on lead walks she wasn’t getting any better. Wagging her tail is a huge part of her life so she was feeling very sorry for herself!

My dog hates water so I've no idea why she got it. She's 15 and never had it before. I can only assume the recent cold weather caused it but she has also been very stressed due to my own stress last week so I think it was that too unfortunately.

It took about 6 weeks in total for our dog. It’s very traumatic. And he looked dreadful for three days.

he also has had happy tail and the ensuing blood bath is equally traumatic.

He whacked it and “broke” the top of it. It still has a kink in it.
He had gabapentin for a week and paracetamol.

it was completely still for a week and then slowly came back to life!

Mine has had it several times - rest, paracetamol and a hot water bottle all helped.
