Can anyone recommend a book or app for puppy training?

I’m getting a puppy and want to be prepared! It’s a long time since I had a pup and I’m sure there is plenty I’ve forgotten. So any good guides/apps that will help with settling and training a new pup? I’ve seen some but they are very “ American” . I just want practical tips for everything!!

What kind of pup?

Hi OP! Mine is a lab so the books I read are about gun dogs so probably of no use to you. But please feel free to join us on the puppy survival thread! Non judgemental advice and a space to rant if needed 😂 as well as look at cute puppy pics of course. We sometimes waffle on about books and cakes too. Ha.

There is a Pippa Mattinson book-the Happy Puppy Handbook. It was really helpful with my first puppy and I reminded myself using it the second time too. Highly recommended.

is an excellent resource. What I would recommend is read the puppy pages before your puppy arrives - you won't have time after.

Not a book or app as I am all in favour of actual training classes for the first 18 months or so.
All dogs welcome and is probably cheaper than any private dog trainer.

Pippa Mattinson's Happy Puppy Handbook. Much easier to refer to than the Puppy Squeezy book.
Then puppy classes with only a few dogs. Then I transferred to the local dog club and did the KC Good Citizen scheme, bronze to gold in six months.
Now doing sniffer dog training.
The more you do the better your relationship with your dog.

I’ve ordered the easy squeeze book, and the Happy Puppy handbook and one other whose name escapes me at the moment! Puppy classes start in January, Good citizen after that? I’m getting organised😁Puppy doesn’t arrive until December!

Gwen Bailey's 'Perfect Puppy' is worth a look as well, although Steve Mann's book is excellent and should have you covered.
