Not going to tag everyone as I don't know who wants to join. Welcome everyone. 😁

I have had two roofers here this morning. After the initial barking at heads appearing over the ridge, the dogs have been so good. They've sat in the garden and watched them working. Greeted them every time they came into the garden and didn't once try to bolt out of the gate. I heard one of the men telling them to 'stay' as he struggled through the gate with a bucket full of water, and then telling them they were 'good dogs'.
They've just finished and as they were leaving one commented on how calm my dogs are and not like 'normal spaniels'. See. Not all working cockers are 'high on crack' and 'manic'. 😇😇😇

Beautiful weather here today. 🌞 I unexpectedly got my car back yesterday. 🥳
Off to the woods to walk the adolescent nutter until she collapses in a heap. 😂

@CoubousAndTourmaIet I think there is a difference between selecting a breed for a purpose and selecting one because it looks good on TikTok.

Very true.
Ours was never a status symbol. Times have changed since 1977, just my brain has not evolved beyond that point, clearly😬
I also have to say in our defence that almost immediately she was so much more than a property guard and we all loved her (aside from our old streetwise tom cat who hated her guts).

brushingboots · 14/11/2025 14:31

@SpanielsGalore do you find that it takes forever to dry, or is it just that my house is absolutely Baltic? I wore mine on Wednesday for a walk and the wrists were still damp the next day. Made me wonder if I should also get a second one so I can have one drying. But that is also how I ended up with eight Barbours on the go...

I discovered the double zip on Wednesday too so I could have it half open at the bottom which I prefer, like a front vent.

SpanielsGalore · 14/11/2025 14:42

@brushingboots I've been impressed with how quickly it dries. The rain just runs off it, so it's dry within half an hour of being home. I do have my heating on though, so my house is between 18 and 20 degrees.
The double zip is handy, but my favourite feature is the deep pockets. I don't really need to take a bag out now. And my phone stays dry.

@SpanielsGalore ahhh it's my house then which I can see from 200 miles away via my phone is a whopping 14.9 degrees...!

The pockets are excellent! So glad to have spread the word of these marvellous coats.

Mine was 14.9° when I got up this morning. It's now a more acceptable 19.3°.
My phone tells me it's 7° outside. But I am just about to head down to the seafront with the cockers, where my car will no doubt tell me it's below freezing. 🥶 It felt proper wintery on this morning's walk. As opposed to damp and miserable.

It has not stopped raining here since about 9 pm last night. I swear it's got heavier and he completely refused to leave the house this morning.

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 14/11/2025 15:22

5 degrees here, 17 indoors but it's the wind that's the issue for us today. Very scary north easterly and all our walking routes take us under a lot of trees 😬

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 14/11/2025 15:58

@SpanielsGalore It's funny how odd dogs can look with no fur! There's someone near me with a Old English and it looks like a standard poodle because of the way they've had it's fur shaved.

Aren't most Goldies as thick as two short planks?😂

To be fair, I think Twatdog is probably more 'working' colours than most other dogs. It's interesting as his sire is quite prolific yet I am yet to meet another Goldie, including his half-siblings, that look anything like him. The dog I linked on here a while ago (the rescue) is the closest I've seen in terms of colouring to Twatdog and Eris is a close second - but I guess it's because their colouring isn't breed standard! Speaking of colouring, despite her less than stellar colouring, guess who is off to Crufts for judgment day this year? 😀

I agree Twatdog and Eris in exchange for K isn't a fair swap...you'll be going bonkers within a day begging for K back 😀

I might buy DMum and MIL some waterproof trousers for their dryrobes based on what you've said!

@BackToLurk wish mine would refuse to leave the house! Want to trade!?!? I've been out twice already and had two showers because it's freezing.

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 14/11/2025 16:04

Has Eris qualified for Crufts @TheHungryHungryLandsharks ? I didn't even realise she was old enough for showing yet! Is Crufts still March? I've lost track with showing since we don't have our boys.

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 14/11/2025 16:50

@CoubousAndTourmaIet I really should spell-check 'his' not 'her.' It's Twatdog going.😱

But, that being said, Eris, can do puppy shows from 6 months! So, if the timing works out, if she places in any of the show before Crufts in v. early January or late December (there are two she can do) she could, in theory, qualify for Crufts

It's a bit bonkers, as realistically she stands no chance of ever winning anything.

She basically just has to be six months old and have won something. She'll be over eight months by then, and probably will have won something simply by virtue of being the only dog her age entered. Last I checked, the show in January currently has one entry. Her. 😂

tizwozliz · 14/11/2025 17:03

Oof it's grim outside. The girls had to be cajoled out the car when we went to the woods earlier, but were fine once out and moving. Nearly a full clothing change required when I got back, I'll be surprised if my coat is dry by tomorrow (luckily I have two!)

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 14/11/2025 17:05

Ah, brilliant! TD is going again, what a star! Really hope baby Eris qualifies too, even if you opt not to take her.

I wasn't sure if I was confused about her age or if they'd changed it so puppies no longer needed to qualify. It's about 8 years since Algy qualified for it (PMDC show) and 12 since Finn did (SKC in Edinburgh) so I'm completely out of touch!

Why d'you think Eris stands no chance? I know you say TD is super typey but sometimes they can catch a judges eye without being standard perfect, can't they? You never know. She might suddenly blossom and surpass all your expectations.

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 14/11/2025 17:06

Stunning photo again @tizwozliz Beautiful.

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 14/11/2025 17:14

OMG So glad we opted not to venture out. There's a big tree come down right across one of the footpaths nearby 😱 It's really bad here right now, car alarms going and we've filled some flasks with boiling water because we're expecting the power to go off.

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 14/11/2025 17:49

@tizwozliz your girls really are beautiful!

@CoubousAndTourmaIet It's simply because she's the same colouring as Twatdog so doesn't 'conform' to breed standards that I think she won't do well. She'll catch their eye because she is an unusual shade, but she won't win. I think she's beautiful, but she won't be perfect in their eyes. Poor girly. It's the same issue Twatdog has.

Tbh I am only taking Twatdog as it's a good day out for me and DDs. The real plus though is that with a dog entered I can eye up the other younger males, speak to their handlers and owners, and see if there's any potential studs to use with Eris once she's old enough...although that makes me sound a bit pimpy!

Can't believe how bad the weather is elsewhere. It's been quite windy here, but no trees down etc.

tizwozliz · 14/11/2025 17:54

The wind here wasn't too bad earlier but we did hear a massive crack and watch quite a large tree split in two a short distance from us when out. 😲

YorkshireFelix · 14/11/2025 18:29

It’s quite windy here but not horrendous. The rain is awful though. I’m currently sat in the car outside DD’s youth group freezing my tits off for 90 mins because it’s too far to drive home and back again. Some pillock was setting off fireworks again but I just checked the camera and V is croissanted on the sofa with the heating on full blast so I’m sure he’s fine 😄

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 14/11/2025 18:34

That sounds scary @tizwozliz !

There's another big tree down near us according to local facebook. Glad we don't have to go out tonight or in the morning. The wind is howling down our chimney just now and the rain is lashing.

Hope @SpanielsGalore and her girls are okay after their coastal walk...

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 14/11/2025 18:40

@YorkshireFelix I demand my rights to see a croissant shaped Vinny!! I hope your DD is feeling a bit better as well.

Lol at croissant shaped Vinny after me posting a bagel shaped Brie earlier on! Those two things are our weekend food treats 😁

I also hope your daughter has had a better week @YorkshireFelix

And... a third tree is down here 😮 I'm staying put.

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 14/11/2025 18:48

I took a very good photo of Twatdog mid-pester (for cuddles) a few days ago and forgot to share! Enjoy

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 14/11/2025 18:59

He's gorgeous @TheHungryHungryLandsharks ❤ He has a baby face like our Merlin did, such a sweet innocence... The poor lad does not deserve to be referred to as Twatdog forever more😆
Then again M was referred to as "Puff" a fair bit 🤔

YorkshireFelix · 14/11/2025 19:02

I can’t find a croissant but I did realise when I was searching that I took an identical photo exactly year apart to the day which is pretty freaky!

Poor Bill really struggling with an upset stomach tonight - pancake poo earlier. He really doesn't like going out in the dark and the rain, either. I can hear him gently farting tonight, and have a strong feeling I might get a 3am wake-up murp and be standing in the yard in my nightie with a golf umbrella 🙄

What did cheer me up is my trainer posting this glorious picture of the little nobhead last week pinching my hat and running over to her with such delight. Just look how pleased he is with himself 😄
