Not going to tag everyone as I don't know who wants to join. Welcome everyone. 😁

I have had two roofers here this morning. After the initial barking at heads appearing over the ridge, the dogs have been so good. They've sat in the garden and watched them working. Greeted them every time they came into the garden and didn't once try to bolt out of the gate. I heard one of the men telling them to 'stay' as he struggled through the gate with a bucket full of water, and then telling them they were 'good dogs'.
They've just finished and as they were leaving one commented on how calm my dogs are and not like 'normal spaniels'. See. Not all working cockers are 'high on crack' and 'manic'. 😇😇😇

Beautiful weather here today. 🌞 I unexpectedly got my car back yesterday. 🥳
Off to the woods to walk the adolescent nutter until she collapses in a heap. 😂

@YorkshireFelix it's probably because people have normalised 'fat' dogs. I imagine one of them weighs the same as 2 V's.

Speaking of dog weight. Hen has put on a few KG. I'm wondering if I can blame the wart (it is bloody massive). Although I do know she needs to lose a bit, but as she's an old girl it is harder to shift it. And I say she needs to lose it...I can still feel very ribs very clearly...

But still, diet for Hen and me, because all this cake is not healthy. But more importantly, if I lose weight now I can have extra Yule Log at Christmas 😁

YorkshireFelix · 03/11/2025 20:30

I’m on a pre-Xmas ‘diet’ too, as much as it pains me, because I’ve been eating sugar like it’s going out of fashion recently. My skin is so bad because of it and I feel rubbish! Doesn’t help that we’d smashed through multiple boxes of mince pies already, before it had even got to mid-October 😂

YorkshireFelix · 03/11/2025 20:34

Actually I say that but I’ve just stood in the kitchen and eaten two lebkuchen hearts but I blame DH for buying and leaving them open on the side…

LandSharksAnonymous · 04/11/2025 09:12

If ever I was in doubt about whether Twatdog was pointless, he proved himself this morning. We encountered doe on our morning walk. All the dogs were ahead of me and suddenly stopped, then Twatdog let out this loud cry and came rushing back to me - and only then did I see the gaggle of Doe. They all fled after he cried. The girls just stood there (although Clem did indulge in a very deep woof), but no…the pointless one had to run back to his mummy like he’d been set upon by sixty toddlers. Shoved his head into my crotch and started shaking. Loser.

@YorkshireFelix it’s so hard around Christmas isn’t it?! Particularly when ships bring out the Xmas food so early. My guilty pleasure is cornflake clusters - I just can’t stop once I start and I made the mistake of buying some for Halloween (not that we get any trick or treaters as I sit in the dark 😀). I told myself I was just being prepared, but I’ve eaten a rub in two days 😩

My problem is if it’s there, it’s eaten! If there’s nothing bad for me to eat then I’m absolutely fine and don’t miss it…

LandSharksAnonymous · 04/11/2025 09:20

Double spam! Sorry.

I just pulled off the most spectacular piece of parallel parking I have ever witnessed and not even in my car!!! Jeremy Clarkson, eat your heart out.

tizwozliz · 04/11/2025 09:41

I did win on the PB's but not quite enough to retire on 😢

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 04/11/2025 09:51

Sorry @LandSharksAnonymous but am cackling at the idea of big, macho, impressive boy scampering back to mummy. I do think Twatdog and Brie were fraternal twins in a past life. I commented to my chap yesterday that our girl is a complete snowflake 🙄 It's a term I hate but it perfectly sums up Brie.

It took me a moment to figure out why ships were bringing Christmas food...I had a romantic vision of a clipper in full sail before realising it was just a typo. How disappointing.

Not much to report from here other than the fact that walking down our garden path now necessitates wellies 😒

Likewise. I won £150 but my partner won nothing, despite having double the investment that I have 😁
My 6 month total is double what his is, so by the law of averages, I'm due a dry spell and he's due a decent win...

🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
That's worthy of celebration. I'm always pleased with myself when I manage a perfect parallel park. Even if it's in a massive space that would fit two cars. 😂

Poor Twatdog. I suppose that's better than chasing them, which my pair would have done.

I'm the same with food/sweet treats - if I don't buy it, I don't miss it. But if it's here, I can hear it calling me from inside the cupboard. I bought four bags of Snowballs off Amazon last week. They didn't last 4 days. I had to buy 4 items to qualify for 5% discount. It wasn't because I am greedy.

Was woken up this morning by N whining to go out. She had a very runny poo and then came inside and vomited on the carpet. She seems a bit down, but still maaged to eat her breakfast.
She was sick first thing yesterday too, but was then fine all day. I put it down to the crabs she had scavenged on the walk.
P and K both had runny poos yesterday, so maybe there is a bug going round.

Took P to the vets this morning to have her anal glands expressed. One side was alright. The other side was filling up with brown, gloopy (vet nurse's description) liquid, so definitely needed doing. Hopefully she'll feel a bit more comfortable now.

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 04/11/2025 11:14

Hope your girls are better soon @SpanielsGalore and that P will feel the benefit of the gland emptying.

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 04/11/2025 11:33

This is Brie today, I don't seem to have posted a new photo for a while. Really hope she doesn't look overweight like the Beckham spaniels; she is quite a hefty lass, but also very tall at 30" shoulder height. We aren't currently covering enough miles because of the constant rain, which she hates, so I've reduced her food intake. Hoping for a dry spell soon and some decent long walks.

She loves this bench ❤ She stands on it and we have kisses through the window.

Impressive. Can’t parallel park to save my life.

@CoubousAndTourmaIet Brie is gorgeous. We’re fairly dry here, apart from the odd shower. Possibly why we’ve still got a hosepipe ban.

brushingboots · 04/11/2025 16:38

A day of much variety today. Had to go to a monastery (!) for work which I thought would be a four-hour round trip but turned into six and a half hours, so now that's the longest pupsy has ever been left during the day on her own. She was, predictably, fine when I got back but I'm definitely not going to make a habit of it.

Got home to find loads of smoke in my garden and in the lane so I rang the fire brigade and faffed around with that for ages. Now my hair and the whole of the house smell like a bonfire – my hair smells particularly reminiscent of Leeds Festival 2008 which is not a good thing. Gone out on a walk earlier to get away from the smoke at home and to treat poor neglected pupsy to some daylight.

YorkshireFelix · 04/11/2025 22:36

@CoubousAndTourmaIet definitely not overweight, she is solid just as she should be! And very floofy. How is she feeling today?

@Silverbirchleaf we’re in hosepipe ban land here too. Where abouts are you? It’s been quite drizzly here and Vinny was filthy after our walk today. Last autumn I hosed him off in the yard (poor thing) but had to put him in the nice warm shower today instead!

@brushingboots Leeds 2008 was where I met DH 🤣 the glamour!!

LandSharksAnonymous · 05/11/2025 07:40

@tizwozliz @CoubousAndTourmaIet congrats on the win (even if it's not quite enough to retire on)!

@CoubousAndTourmaIet he really is a massive wimp! I do sometimes think the bigger the dog, the wimpier they are! Like Satan and her GSD friend who cowers into submission when he see's her...

Brie is definitely not fat. You can see where her waist goes in! She's in beautiful condition, I think.

@SpanielsGalore I was so proud of myself. DSis can't park, but her car is smaller than mine (she has the XC60) so I thought I'd give it a go after she failed three times to park. Although, I hadn't realised when we switched seats the entire construction site on the other side of the road was watching us - possibly because it was their cars we were trying to park between? I slotted the car in no issue, and it was literally swing in backwards then inch forward...but the space was small enough that both the front and back parking sensors were flashing bright red.

How are N and P doing now?

@brushingboots eurgh that sounds like a horrible amount of driving! Out of interest, as it's for work can you claim the mileage back? All those medium length journeys must really add up. I'm glad pupsy was fine though. I bet she'd been sitting there enjoying the peace and quiet 😁

brushingboots · 05/11/2025 08:58

@LandSharksAnonymous Yes I can, and train fares too! I hardly go anywhere now without filing an expenses form. She doesn’t seem mortally wounded by her temporary abandonment, I’m pleased to say. Currently tapping the top of my laptop with her nose asking to go out for a run.

Silverbirchleaf · 05/11/2025 09:01

@YorkshireFelix South east, not Yorkshire. Discovered recently that a work colleague, who lives ten miles away has no restrictions at all. I guess they have to have the cut off point at some point, but they still live in the same general area.

Off to take the dog out now. Bit damp and grey out there but still mild.

SpanielsGalore · 05/11/2025 12:55

@LandSharksAnonymous I nearly asked if there were any builders watching. 😂
When I lived in Brighton, every time I got home I had to parallel park with an audience of builders. I got quite good at it then, but am woefully out of practice now.

@brushingboots Where was the smoke coming from? Glad pupsy was alright after your long day. It happened to me once and other than being desperate for a wee when I got back, the dogs were fine.

I have a joiner doing some work in my kitchen today, so we're all chilling in the living room.
P is fine, although still licking her rear end.
N still has diarrhoea. Had to get up at 3:30 to let her out. I can't starve her for 24 hours as she's on pain meds that need taking with food. So I gave her half of her usual breakfast, which came out in liquid form a couple of hours later. Might have to be a trip to the vets.

OP posts:
LandSharksAnonymous · 05/11/2025 18:52

@SpanielsGalore it's amazing how motivating it can be when there are people watching! Particularly men who, for some reason, seem to think no women can park.

Poor N, is she any better this evening or are you still thinking vets?

I hope no one else is having the fireworks we are! It's chaos here - various fireworks for the last hour and probably another few hours to go. Thankfully the dogs don't really care (Twatdog, despite being a massive coward loves watching them so he's actually on the patio gazing up at them), but I find it very irritating as it's interrupting DDs and I watching 'The Hobbit.'

I say 'watching' as DDs are watching it, but I'm trying to decide how I could find Martin Freeman really good in Sherlock (way better than Cumberbatch) and absolutely shit in this. Honestly, the Hobbits only redeeming features are Cate Blanchett and Ian McKellen who steal every scene they are in.

SpanielsGalore · 05/11/2025 19:15

@LandSharksAnonymous I only watched the first hobbit film and I thought it was shit. How they could go from the great TLOTR's films to that is beyond me. And Martin Freeman just looked like MF. You could totally forget he was supposed to be a hobbit.

N is no better. Dinner went straight through her, so I have made an appointment for tomorrow afternoon.

I haven't heard any fireworks at all this year. You all need to move to my little part of Scotland.

OP posts:
SpanielsGalore · 05/11/2025 19:31

Spoke too soon. Just heard a loud bang. All the dogs ran around barking and now P is sitting on my lap trembling. 😞

OP posts:
CoubousAndTourmaIet · 05/11/2025 19:42

Sorry but I'm wetting myself at Martin Freeman just looked like MF 😂Yup, we thought The Hobbit was shite too, particularly Stephen Fry being Stephen Fry and the stupid made up elf girl turning it into Mills & Boon with pointy ears. I will admit I did have a serious crush on Thranduil though...😳

Bangers going off all around here so we have Bach Brandenburg Concertos playing. Might swap it out for some Led Zep in a bit. Brie coping okay so far.

Thank you @Silverbirchleaf @YorkshireFelix @LandSharksAnonymous for lovely comments😊

Sorry that N still has a dodgy tummy @SpanielsGalore , hope you don't have another disturbed night.

LandSharksAnonymous · 05/11/2025 19:52

@CoubousAndTourmaIet Ohhh I can agree with that! The actor that played Thranduil is particularly delicious. He gave me Jason Isaacs as Lucius Malfoy vibes...

I'm glad you, me and @SpanielsGalore all agree The Hobbit is shit and are united in our dislike of Martin Freeman.

DDs are still at an age where they think it's great fun (I guess I should count my blessings they hate Twilight - or I might actually think they were changelings) so I'll suffer through it for them.

I'm so sorry Brie and P don't like the fireworks ❤Hope P stops shaking soon! I imagine mine are only okay as they are used to the sound of shots in general. Eris was a bit 'oohh' at the first one but then realised no one else was bothered and so took her cues from them. Smart girl

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 05/11/2025 20:07

Brie could learn a lot from Baby Eris. She is currently hiding under the table 🙄
Bangers going off nearby now so we've got Physical Graffiti cranked up.
