11 month old pup won't let me trim her paws

From the day we got our Working Cocker I've worked really hard at trying to get her comfortable with being touched and groomed. She's absolutely wonderful getting a shower and a dry. She deals so well with getting brushed, albeit she loves a wee treat bribe to do so, and up until a couple of months ago she was more than happy to let me trim her paws and ears myself. Now I can only get her ears trimmed but she will not let me near her paws. If there are no scissors or clippers in sight then she will happily let me touch and inspect her paws without even moving but as soon as they appear she is suspicious and jumps away from me.

I'm going back to square one and trying to touch her paws more than usual again without scissors in sight. I'll then graduate to doing it while the scissors are visible/in my hand/ touching her paw etc. I'm hoping that it's a combination of needing extra reassurance and a phase. Also hoping it doesn't last too long because those paws are looking a bit overgrown!

I'm just wondering if there are any other techniques or advice anyone has for getting her comfortable with it again?

No, you're doing what I'd do. Lots of love, praise, cuddles, treats. Just like human babies they have odd stages!!

if it gets too desperate I'd book a trim at a groomers while you re work on the trust with you & sharp objects!!

mad, but beautiful!!

(where's the tax??)

This is somewhat controversial, but I had a JRT who would not allow her nails to be clipped. She had odd shaped feet so her nails didn’t wear down as they normally would. She would go bananas (the only time she would ever try and bite) and the whole thing was awful for her. The vet did it under sedation but that wasn’t great for her either. I saw a recommendation to use a sling to hang them up and then do it. So I chopped the corners off an old hand bag, popped her in it and hung it off the curtain rail. She literally just dangled there, I clipped her nails in less than 2 minutes and it was done. She died at 16 and I clipped her nails that way her whole life because it was stress free for her.
