Elderly dog toileting in the night

Hi all. I've got around this issue all summer by just keeping the back door open all night and letting my dog (14.5 years old) come and go. It's worked fine but now it's got colder I can't really do that now. This night he's needed to go out 3 times (3am, 330am and 615 am). I hear his paws tapping around on the laminate downstairs then go and let him out. Being woken up 3 times is like having a newborn and not sustainable. If I don't let him out there is wee and poo on the floor. The flooring is already ruined but I'm not replacing as it will just get damaged again. I've tried putting mats down and also a litter tray and he goes anywhere else but. We adopted him when he was middle aged so I don't know how he was toilet trained originally. Can anyone give me any ideas on what to try as I am so tired already, and really struggle to get back to sleep after letting him out. Thanks

There honestly isn’t much you can do. As dogs get older they can’t hold their bladder as long and need to go more frequently.

Can’t help with the poo I’m afraid but we use a belly band for our elderly boy which helps with the wees

Unfortunately that is just what happens I think. I just put those big washable mats down everywhere and hoped for the best. It was hard work and I did have to replace my flooring but I wanted to replace it anyway. Just thought I’m lucky to have them so long, as long as they were happy in themselves

I’ve a 14 yr old, I put her in disposable dog nappies overnight and keep her in one small container area so it’s easy to clean.
