My dog keeps getting attacked

ldp123 · 28/08/2025 17:27

Last fortnight my little 5kg pomsky has been attacked twice and had volatile behaviour towards it from a lot of dogs, even when minding his own business. He is 2 years and intact, but has been ill for a week or so. Is it possible he is secreting a different smell that is riling up other dogs and would it be due to the illness(diarreah mostly ) or the hormones due to being un neutered? I can't take another 30kg dog inflicting it's weight on mine-I'm petrified on walks.

Get your dog neutered!

Steph341 · 28/08/2025 17:32

Unneutered male dogs are more likely to face aggression from other dogs, get your dog neutered.

JurassicPark4Eva · 28/08/2025 17:33

Yes it is likely that he's smelling "weak". It'll also be that he's not neutered.

Walk him on lead only and cross the road away from other dogs for a wee while.

this is proof that dogs are absolute arsewipes

Coffeeishot · 28/08/2025 18:34

He is a full adult at 2 and seeing as he is intact this might be why he is getting attacked, are you intending to get him.neutured.

AcquadiP · 28/08/2025 18:38

You need to get him neutered.

AwkwardPaws27 · 28/08/2025 18:40

I had AwkwardPup neutered partly due to this - we had delayed it as he was very unwell & then we were concerned it may negativity impact his behaviour (quite submissive & nervous after 9 months of illness), but he kept getting humped & was on the receiving end of some aggressive behaviour too.

We did chemical castration for 6 months first to test it out before committing though, to check the impact on his behaviour first.

Coffeeishot · 28/08/2025 20:25

Is he ok now @AwkwardPaws27 ? My dog is getting Neutered next week and I am a bit nervous about it i am sure it will be fine!

This doesn’t need to turn into a slagging off dogs thread. We have enough of those.

Get your dog neutered!

1st post nails it

pilates · 28/08/2025 20:43

Yes because he’s intact. Other dogs feel threatened.

Mingenious · 28/08/2025 20:45

If he’s an anxious sort I wouldn’t be in a hurry to neuter him.

it’s more likely he just smells a bit wrong because he’s unwell, or his body language is weird because he’s not feeling himself.

My dog is entire (and will stay that way) and never gets any drama from any dogs we walk past when we’re out

@Coffeeishot yes he's doing great. He hasn't had issues since apart from one other neutered spaniel who dislikes him & one intact cockerpoo who he dislikes - I can only put that down to personality clashes though, & we just give each other space if in the same park.

BluePine · 29/08/2025 16:28

Ours got attacked constantly until he was neutered. He obviously gave off some type of scent that wound other dogs up because once he was done, we never had another problem!

This poster obsessively rushes in to any dog thread to spew her bile. Even in the doghouse forum. It's really quite pathetic. Like a wailing pub bore with a one track mind demanding attention. I really hate hot weather but don't feel the need to go and whine about it on boards for sun worshippers.

deadpan · 29/08/2025 17:02

My first rescue dog was attached several times and he had been neutered by the dogs home when we got him. (I would say you need to get him neutered anyway because there are way too many dogs around and all dogs should be neutered imo if they aren't breeding.)
My dog was really friendly towards other dogs initially but after 6 attacks (by different dogs) he became fear aggressive. Do you let your dog off? It might be an idea to keep him closer than you have done so far. I'm not saying don't socialise him, just reducing the risk of further attacks.

Ahh, gotcha. Makes sense, there are loads of dog haters on MN.
