Helping a dog with neck wound

Our lovely 11 year old cocker has had a wound on his neck. Not sure if he was bitten by an insect, cut it whilst out and about etc. Vet shaved around it, gave antibiotics, anti inflammatory mixture and antiseptic liquid. He wore a cone for a week. Went back to vets - healing well but finish the meds and collar can come off.
We’ve continued to bathe it and have given him short periods of time, watched carefully without the collar. Yesterday, he was in the garden without collar, and rolled his head, scratching the healed but tender wound on the grass. Wound bled, we cleaned it and collar is back on.
My question is… is there anything that we could use to stick over the wound to keep it clean whilst healing more so that he could have times without the collar. Fur makes it difficult but collar is adding to his frustration. We bathe and scratch him as much as necessary.

When my old dog had this (was bitten by a GSD in the neck) the vet suggested putting an old T shirt on her but that had to be pulled up all the time, as it slipped and exposed the wound - how about a (loose) headscarf round the neck?

Do you have a bandanna or light scarf? You coul use that to hold a but of gauze in place for extra padding.

You can useually get self adhesive bandages at pet shops

Could you put a bit of gauze over the wound and then wrap it so it's coverd but not uncomfortable

We used this with our Springer who got caught in brambles and tore himself free, and ended up with a line of wounds across the side and back of his neck.

He was quite chuffed with his new neck gear and wore it for months after everything was healed.
