We have a 5 month old male frenchie. Lovely excitable little pup. Settled in quite well. But the only thing that wee are having a huge problem with, is he keeps eating his own poop. It’s disgusting. Any suggestions on how to stop this filthy habit. I would have thought by now he would be stopping it. Thanks xx

Is he pooing indoors then eating it? Some do it to “tidy up”.

if it’s indoor poo then try taking him out on the hour every hour to get used to toileting outside and don’t bother with toilet pads indoors.

if he is eating outdoor poop hopefully someone else will be along with advice

Morning if I remember correctly there's something you can buy to add to their food which in the end tastes awful to them ,
Other thing I was taught is once they have pooed clean it up straight away takes away the temptation x

Add a v small amount of pineapple chunks, for a Frenchie maybe three (in juice, not syrup) to his food once a day.
It will make shit taste horrid to him 🤣
Guaranteed to work.

How is he getting the opportunity to eat his poo?

Newpeep · 25/07/2025 10:34

Loads of reasons why pups do this from poor management from the breeder to nutrition but the best way to break the habit is to clear it up immediately so he doesn’t get chance to do it. No need to add anything to the food.

We realised we’d cut down our DDog’s calories a bit too much when she started eating poo when we were on walks. We increased her food a bit and it stopped. Is she eating enough?
