Are there ANY flea treatments that still work??

Tried Frontline and other over-the-counter stuff, had Bravecto, Advocate and a Seresto collar all from the vets - none of them have got rid of the fleas.

The only thing that seems to kill fleas is the Bob Martin household spray but obviously I can't use that on the dogs. I'm really losing my mind and I feel so sorry for my poor itchy boys ☹️

I use the Nexguard tablets for my dog, shes 4 and never had fleas, I get them from the vets on a monthly care plan. Hope you can find something that works for yours.

amber763 · 30/06/2025 19:13

Don't you have them on monthly treatment from the vets? Get a prescription from them to get rid of them and then get them on monthly treatment.

I use Prinovox for my dog as a preventative (prescription-only from the vet, comes in a box of 4 applicators), and i also use Virbac's Indorex spray to treat the furniture/floorboards once every 6 months. He's 13 years old and has never had fleas. Hope that helps OP.

Nexgard Spectra or Simparica Trio - both tablets from the vet. Plus Indorex spray around the house.

zerofeeling · 30/06/2025 19:32

Thank you people! Whenever I see a vet (been to three different ones now) they just talk about Bravecto, it seems to be their go-to? I'll have to mention these other treatments - I wonder if they work once the dog actually has fleas or if they're more of a repellent?

Are you just treating your dog or the environment. You need to treat and remove fleas from the environment as well as preventing them on the dog.

A lot of flea treatment works by needing the flea to be on the dog and feeding to kill it. Therefore you will still see fleas on the dog. If your home is infested with fleas then simply killing the ones as they feed on the dog won't be enough.

Make an appointment and have a proper indepth chat with your vet about parasite management.

Bravecto has a money back guarantee from the manufacturers - if your dog still has fleas after taking it, something is not right there

I didn't know that. I mentioned it to the vet who prescribed it that it hadn't worked but they didn't say anything about a refund?

Bravecto does work usually, did you dog have the three month tablet? Are you absolutely sure they still have fleas?!

Lougle · 30/06/2025 19:44

We have Credelio plus. It seems to work.

HaagenYAAS · 30/06/2025 20:07

Yes that’s right - ask them to contact MSD (or do it yourself). MSD is the manufacturer

HaagenYAAS · 30/06/2025 20:08

I’ve never known it not work

Justlovedogs · 30/06/2025 20:21

I get Simparica prescribed by the vet, 1 tablet every 4 to 5 weeks. I get the prescription for about £13 and then order 6 months of tablets from an online pet pharmacy. Works for mine.

It was a month tablet - yes I saw the bastards with my own eyes 😱

i struggled to stop the fleas on
my dog but for years a Seresto collar and Indorex spray for the house did the trick. Dog then seemed not too well after getting a new collar so we swapped to Bravecto every 3 months and it seems to be working well .

Rayqueen · 01/07/2025 04:29

If the frontline didn't work then you didn't buy the right one or didn't apply it correctly. There are various frontlines the cheaper ones are the preventative the deared ones will say kills and prevents. As a vet we still recomme frontline to people who need a one off affordable flea treatment but again will only work if the correct weight and treatment is used

If the household spray worked the main problem is an investation in the house. There is no product that lasts that kills fleas instantly - bravecto takes 6 hours to kill fleas on the dog. So if you have a large flea burden in the house you will see fleas on the dog. To get the money back guarantee you need to have treated all pets in the household and the entire environment.

WonderingWanda · 01/07/2025 07:13

Maybe the Bravecto for dogs isn't the same but we use it for our cat and its amazing. It sounds like your house might be infested as well so they just keep hatching and jumping on the dog.

Ohdearwhatnow4 · 01/07/2025 07:18

What type of dog is it?
Could you try flea shampoo then groom it really short also re do the whole house

Blimeyblighty · 01/07/2025 07:19

Has anyone found a decent electric flea comb?

ThePure · 01/07/2025 07:19

Bravecto works a dream for us. My MIl brought her dog with fleas to my house which was very annoying (she had treated him but he still had some). They jumped onto my dog and very quickly died. It was crazy to see.

Amicompletelyinsane · 01/07/2025 07:21

This will be an environmental issue. You will still see fleas for up to 3 months of you've had a out break as they can still hatch in the environment. By the time they get on the pet they will be dying from the treatment. Get some indorex, treat the house.

ThePure · 01/07/2025 07:22

We didn’t have an infestation in the house I guess. My MIL was so impressed with the Bravecto that she started using it for her dog too.
You can get those bomb things that fumigate the house can’t you. I reckon that plus the Bravecto will do the job.

HappyToSmile · 01/07/2025 07:24

Indore for the house and wash / vacuum everything regularly.
I used simparica for the last year and have been impressed. It kills ticks as well and in the last year, I've definitely noticed less ticks. You need a prescription but can usually still get it online for cheaper (with the paid prescription)

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 01/07/2025 23:02

Bravecto is usually 3 monthly 🤔 I really hope it works as I’ve just dosed my dog 🙈
