DDog has always been a dream at home, fine on walks, little bit anxious around more confident dogs but nothing notable. Fine being left at home for 5 hours max. Very few day to day issues.

However…. Whenever we are out and about for a day trip or holiday, all hell breaks loose when a member of our party moves away. Doesn’t even have to be her immediate family, it also extends to anyone who is in our social circle that day (particularly women, she can take or leave accompanying men!). If you’ve been with us for a couple of hours on a walk and then you go to the loo/bar/ car to fetch something, etc, there is a lot of alert barking. If I’m away at an Airbnb and need to get something from the car: major barking.

How do we manage this? Reassurance doesn’t work. Distraction using food or toys also doesn’t work.

For context, aged 3.5. A breed known to need human company but not especially prone to anxiety or neuroticism.
