Urgent Live In Dog Sitter Needed -Edinburgh area

hello lovely mumsnetters! My daughter is supposed to be coming on holiday with me from Sunday 8th June until Monday 16th June. She has been let down by not one but two dog sitters. She needs someone to live in with her three year old fox red lab. He is a big boy but very friendly. He is not great with men so ideally looking for a female. He has beautiful manners but can’t be housed with other dogs as he is an entire male. We are getting desperate now as the two previously booked sitters had to cancel through no fault of their own, so if you know anyone who would like to earn a nice sum of money to dog sit and living in for just over a week, please message me directly. Any suggestions greatfully received. (she’s tried all the usual apps but not had any responses). Thanks!

Has she tried the Rover app? Alternatively, what about contacting the dog daycare or dog trainers/walkers in the area and see if any of the staff there do home boarding? Or We Love Pets? I couldn’t see an Edinburgh branch on the map search but there’s one in Livingston which isn’t far.

SirChenjins · 30/05/2025 20:01

Or the vet school/vet nurse uni course in case a student is looking for some money over the holidays?

strawberrywishes · 30/05/2025 20:03

Was also going to suggest contacting we love pets or the local vets to see if they could recommend anyone.

Where in Edinburgh?

Where in Edinburgh?

Dalkeith. So not too far from the centre.

@strawberrywishes @SirChenjins She has tried all those! The issue with the vet school is that the students have placements and they have all just changed rotas. Rover was where she sourced the other one from but they couldn’t fulfil the dates due to personal circumstances. She has also tried the breeder but they are too far away. And tried her own vet without any success. If anyone can help, I know it’s the hive collective of good old Mumsnet!

On FB there is a site called Edinburgh Dog Borrowers for people looking for dog care. Hopefully you should find someone that way.

Sorry too far. My daughter does some dog sitting but too far from us. Are you on the Edinburgh egg FB page?

legogal1 · 30/05/2025 20:18

I'm in Glasgow and there is a site called Borrow a dog . Com who have a lot of sitters on it, worth a try, my family joined the site 8 years ago and still love looking after spaniel when the owner goes away on holiday etc, trustworthy site

Try Home and herd - the lady is called Nina. She travels nationally https://www.ninashomeandherd.com/

I know a student in Edinburgh who used to walk dogs for the Dogs' Trust. I could ask her if she'd be able to...?

That was a good call but according to her online booking calendar she’s already booked for those dates.

There's a House and Pet Sitters Uk Facebook group. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/16RukZ3a7W/

Palladin · 30/05/2025 21:02

Perhaps try The Meadows Share Facebook group? It has over 81k members and is very active.

ChiliFiend · 30/05/2025 21:04

We used Trusted House Sitters. It's brilliant. I'm sure there are loads of people looking for an Edinburgh gig.

HudsonBay · 30/05/2025 21:21

I will contact my SIL, she used to do house and dog sitting, i will see if she is free.

HudsonBay · 31/05/2025 15:05

Sorry sister in law is on holiday herself for the first half of that week.
