Which breed after a GR?

Our beautiful golden retriever recently passed away aged 13.
We miss him and want another puppy.
As much as we loved him he was quite big for our tiny house and the hair!!
So this time we're looking for a smaller breed , any recommendations?

Depending on how small you want. I had a conversation a few weeks ago with an acquaintance who used to have GRs. He now has a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, and swears it's like have a GR without the hair everywhere. I know 2 other SCWT who are lovely dogs, that play beautifully with my Border Terrier, and seem pretty easy going.

Cocker Spaniels are basically just smaller goldens IME. Intelligent, loyal. Active. Similar to personality traits and goofyness. Just make sure it’s a good breeder because of the potential issues they can have.

Sorry for your loss. 13 is great for a Goldie, but it’s never long enough 🌺

So sorry about your beautiful dog.
I have a Labrador and the shedding is also insane. I also don't have the same breed again as it's too painful but would consider a Goldendoodle next time

Have a look at Barbets, very similar energy,a little more chilled.
Lighter weight and many are smaller.
Don't shed.
Fabulous family dog, rare breed but litters are planned in the UK. There is an active FB page and breed club for more info

And not working line if you want them to be more like a dopey Goldie.

Border terrier would be my choice

My Tibetian Spanial is like a very mini golden.

We have a cockador, she looks like a small lab and has the temperament of a lab, very loving and loves her ball/food/cuddles!!

I grew up with retrievers, but the house was too small for one, and I settled on an Australian labradoodle. They are many generations bred, so they are very consistent. They have lovely personalities and shed very little. You can get them in many sizes.
