Dogs claw partially snapped from the pad - what should I do?

Was just in the park when I noticed dog's claw on his front paw was sticking up (see pic) He'd been running and jumping around after his ball.
It looks like he's partially snapped it off from where it comes out of his paw. It's not bleeding and he's still putting weight on his foot but he won't let me touch it.
Would really appreciate any advice - is this an emergency vet visit? Is the claw likely to die off? I'm worried about infection. Thanks for any advice.

Speaking from experience with my dog it will be painful. I would phone the vet first thing tomorrow and explain. Mine have always seen me that day and removed the broken part.

Agree that you need to go to the vets who will probably remove it. You’ll also need to clean the paw with a disinfectant solution every time there dog goes out until it all heals up. They might give you Metacalm for the pain. You can get Hibiscrub or similar from the chemist more cheaply that the vets

Ouch, poor thing. Clean, disinfect, wrap a bandage around it and vet first thing tomorrow. I would usually have rung an emergency vet and most likely would still but Dah would say wait. Xx

Do you have a vet phone line as part of your insurance? If so you could phone them for advice until your normal vet opens tomorrow. I have also used a cheap ish video phone consult in the past for advice on whether we needed to be seen out of hours or not and found them really helpful.

Gosh that looks sore. I’d keep it clean - maybe hibiscrub. If you’re not able to take it off I doubt a vet would without surgery. As with our nails it will detach itself quite quickly. I’d leave a day or so to see if you can get it. My dog has problematic feet… I wait til he’s asleep to get a close look.

Thanks so much for all the advice everyone. The nail has snapped off now. I'd completely forgotten we had a 24 HR helpline for our vets, thank you @hobblingAlong for reminding me!!
they've advised being him in if it looks like its getting infected and to do saltwater baths to speed up healing.
