What tracking devices do peopke recommend to use, or not recommend, and why?

Tractive is the one I see advertised most widely. Are there others that are better? Cheaper? As good etc?

I have just done some research as I go off grid in my campervan and Tractive come out top for real time tracking. I've bought two, but have yet to use them. I've set one up and still need to do the other. Easy set up, however they do seem quite heavy. That doesn't bother me particularly as both my dogs are medium/giant breeds. My dogs swim in the sea and most products corrode as they are not designed for salt water. We'll see whether these stand up to that test, over time. Main thing is that I have them in then van for when we travel into unknown areas as if Newfie gets a scent, it's two paws up to me ... 🤔

I've got pitpat. Seems fine but have yet to put it to test with my dog in a real life lost scenario, it's always seemed fairly accurate when I've tested it and keeps it's charge for a long time..
The benefit of it for me was that it's a one-off payment rather than subscription although you can pay extra to track walks, it also works as an activity tracker.
