Local cat bullying my dog

I’ve just moved house and from what I gather the gentleman who lived here before used to feed some of the local cats.

Had several visiting while I was readying the house to move in, they have established a little path through the neighbouring field, up the side of the house and through the garden.

Im sorting the fencing out however one cat seems to think it’s his garden when actually it is Ddogs garden now.

Dog is a terrier and hates cats having been badly swiped by one a few years ago blinding him in one eye.

He is only little and will go barking at them however this cat doesn’t flinch. It sits watching him from the fence looking like it’s ready to pounce - eyes bulging and everything.

Ive managed to distract my dog and bring him in a few times before he’s noticed it on the fence.

aside from sorting the fencing what can I do to deter them? They clearly think it’s their patch.

No hope of knowing whose cat it is, there are lots of houses and lots of cats.

I just want dog to be able to mooch in the garden without worrying he will get hurt again.

  • edited to say it’s probably more intimidation at this point !

Put down your citrus peelings especially lemon. Cats cannot stand the smell of it. I used it to keep a persistent cat from using my raised beds as a litter tray and it worked a treat.
