In turmoil about whether to euthanise our dog

She is a 13 year old springer. We’ve been told by our vets she’s got the worst anal prolapse they’ve ever seen most likely caused by a tumour & it can’t be operated on and the best thing for her would be euthanasia. This came as such a shock as i presumed it could be fixed. She does have periods of panting & restlessness & she keeps licking the area. The area smells pretty awful as well. However - She is eating and drinking like normal if not excessively. She is still keen for dog walks & running after scents. Am I right to feel like the worst most guilty dog owner ever putting her to sleep when she looks so healthy apart from
in that particular area??!

My lovely old boy passed at home on Monday. I am so very sorry for your loss. I didn't have to make the decision because my 13 year old decided himself to go at home, but it's the last act of loving kindness we can give them ❤️

Gentle hugs for you @moana1234 . It sounds like she had a lovely last day and a peaceful passing. It's really not easy is it?

Vets do not tell you this lightly. Do what you need to do for your dog. Sending yoy cyber hugs, really hard but necessary.

You definitely did the right thing. I’m so sorry for your pain but you took it for her. You will always love her and she is such a lucky girl to have had that ❤️
Well done for embracing today and making it special for her. She will live on in all your memories.

An ice cream and a walk sounds like a terrific last day for her OP. You have done her proud. I hope you’re doing ok this evening.
