Is this an ear infection?

Hi,

dog went to groomers today, they didn’t mention anything but her ear is red and streaky inside. Could it be something that happened at the groomer or more likely an infection? She’s been itching it but she often itches after a groom.

vet tomorrow?

Have they cleaned the ear too vigorously?

Tbh I don’t know what they do. It looks sore but not how I’d imagine an infection to look

It doesn’t look like they cleaned her ear at all tbh - the fur around it looks matted…

Either way, vet tomorrow to be certain and I wouldn’t be happy with the groomer - they should 100% have picked up on this and said something. Either they didn’t look in her ears - and they should clean the fur around the ear as part of their grooming as it can get horribly matted - or they did and they caused this so didn’t say, or they did and they didn’t care or forgot (which tbh is even worse!)

She has been VERY barky the last few days

They are our regular groomers and day care and we have never had her back like this before, so I don’t know what has happened.

Could she have scratched it? Does it smell? Any dirt or yuck in the actual ear?

3AndADog · 17/03/2025 21:54

Smells a tiny bit yeasty but normal dog ear smell I would say. No gunk. Yeah it does look like scratches. I’m tempted to send a pic to groomers and ask if they noticed anything before I call the vet

Any brown yuck further in ear? Do you clean ears regularly? Any history of ear issues?

3AndADog · 17/03/2025 22:08

No, no and no!
