Crufts question

Anonimouze · 09/03/2025 06:00

Just a quick one if anyone knows.

I’ve been desperate to go today but childcare has fallen through 😫 Ive wanted to go and watch the working breeds for years!

Is crufts always on the same days every year (ie. Best in show/pastoral and working on a Sunday) or do they change it up? I can only ever go on weekends so wondering if I won’t get another change for a long time.

Thankyou!

It moves on by one day each year. So gundog was Saturday this year, will be Sunday next year

Best in Show is always on the Sunday, but the preceding specific group finals change each year. So, working breeds final could be on another day next year.

Working breeds will be Thursday next year and Friday the following year etc

If you pan well ahead, is it possible you take a day off?
Make it a Christmas/ Birthday present?
If not, you have to wait a few years... 😬

Ylvamoon · 09/03/2025 14:02

Plan not pan ...

Thanks for that. We've arranged to go on Thursday next year so that should be Pastoral?

Are tickets easy to get? My DC absolutely love Crufts I think they'd get more excitement out of a trip to Crufts than they would to Disneyland. Are hotels in the area insanely expensive that week?

Ylvamoon · 09/03/2025 21:19

@SparkyBlue I went Friday and had no issues with tickets on the door.

You can also pre book (it's cheaper) a few weeks in advance.

No idea about hotels, price would depend on distance to the NEC/ airport.

Not particularly expensive - there are loads of hotels in the area and if you want to go cheap there’s an ibis budget hotel at the train station. You can walk from the train station to the NEC in about 10-15 minutes all undercover

Thanks @CarobyBlobs and @Ylvamoon . I'm in Ireland so it couldn't be a day trip so we'd definitely need a night or two. We get so excited every year then it's on, mine are massive dog lovers. They especially love the fly ball and currently are devastated the Jack Russell didn't win best in show😀😀😀. Is it as enjoyable as it looks on tv?

The Jack Russell was really lovely and seemed to really enjoy being in the ring.

It is a really good day out, it’s very very busy but there’s loads to see. You can walk through the benches (where the show dogs are before and after their classes) and you can spend the day watching your favourite breed being shown in the small breed rings but you mustnt touch any of those dogs unless you get permission from the owner.

you can watch the YKC classes which include handling and agility, as well as traditional showing, go to discover dogs where representatives of each breed are and you are allowed to touch and stroke those dogs because that’s why they’re there. Loads and loads of shopping in the halls and of course you can watch the agility and fly ball in the main arena.

food is very expensive in the NEC so take snacks with you.

Ylvamoon · 10/03/2025 06:43

@CarobyBlobs aww yes, we where a bit gutted about the Jack Russel as well. Such a happy lady!
However, my money was on the Tibetan Mastiff... he got reserve (the one sadly nobody remembers)

If you go NEC nx year I would pop over to resorts world for some food afterwards. You can use the shuttle bus (free) for the south car parks ... it's a few minutes away.

It's also good to avoid all the congestion when everyone is leaving!

VeterinaryCareAssistant · 12/03/2025 22:25

I went this year and loved it. Turned into an excited child the night before.

We stayed at Fort Dunlop Travelodge and got the a bus to the NEC which was cheaper than parking at the NEC.
