Dog walker and the collar!

User11099 · 26/02/2025 14:50

Sounds a bit silly really but I'm just trying to figure out if I should say something.

Dog goes with dog walker couple times a week, didn't last week as she was off. The week before dog can back with no collar, I messaged to ask if she could look for it as we didn't have it. It took her days to reply. She didn't have it. I left it, put it down to one of those things and bought another.
I've just seen another dog that is in the walking group with the exact same collar on as the one that has gone missing. It's not a cheap collar and this dog previously had another coloured collar on.
I'm a bit annoyed as it's wasted money. But do I just leave it or do I ask again. At this point it's a couple of weeks that have past.
Sorry I know it's a bit of a silly question but I'm thinking more along the lines of why has the collar been removed in the first place?

Well ask why. To be honest I'd let it go, but assuming you have your number on a tag on the collar it should stay on the dog at all times and you should remind her of this.
Any other issues then I'd find a new walker.

Yes, like the above poster says, just ask as it's law to have an identity tag on your dog when they are out and about.

Unless the dog has a harness as well? Does dog go in the car to where they walk or does she from collecting doggo? I would never ever have my dog in the car with a collar if no harness, so maybe she takes them off for that and then couldnt remember what collar belonged to what dog.

I'd be tempted to ask her why another dog looks like they're wearing your dog's collar! So weird. Is it unique enough that it's unlikely they have one too?

I would also be annoyed at having to buy another collar and tag. My dogs collars were about £30 each, so not cheap or particularly expensive but I'd resent having to buy another in this situation.

Just talk to her! Fido came back without his collar last week, and I think I’ve seen it on Bruno in your pictures- have they got mixed up?

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 26/02/2025 15:20

I'd be annoyed about that, was your dogs details on the collar?

I'd expect them to offer to replace it if they lost it.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

I've rung her just to ask and double check and explained that it may seem a little silly over a collar but we have had to cover the cost of a new one plus tags etc.
She's going to check once she's done drop offs as she has the dog with her. So will see.

His details were on it so I can't understand why it would have been confused, plus surely the other owner would have realised it was not the correct collar and said?

Anyway we will see.
Thank you for giving me so confidence to ask 😂 I'm useless with any form of confrontation

I'd never use a dog walker again that returned my dog without a collar

biscuitsandbooks · 26/02/2025 19:41

Why is she taking your dogs' collar off while out on a walk in the first place?

pawsandwhiskers01 · 19/05/2025 11:52

That’s definitely frustrating—not silly at all. I’d probably ask again, especially since the collar wasn’t cheap and now you’ve seen one just like it on another dog.
