Getting a puppy. What to call her?!

Please help with ideas. We are getting a rescue Rottweiler cross puppy. I am so beyond excited. We lost our beautiful girl 18 months ago and are finally ready for another dog to steal our hearts. She is a cross but looks like a rottie. What names do you think would fit?

Minnie would be a lovely play on words or how about Remi Rotty?

This is her. She might be coming Saturday! Dolly is high on my list. I love Mabel. I am going to have a short list for the 'kids' to choose from so we have the most say!

Rosie 🥰

snoopfroggy · 20/02/2025 19:12

She's gorgeous.

I thought Mabel. But if not...

Agatha, Beryl, Coral, Edith, Ethel, Rita, Rula...

I think she might be a Rita? Blush

Nannyfannybanny · 20/02/2025 19:13

Evie! I have 2 borders, one is Luna because she has a blue half moon in one eye. The other is ruby red,it was a toss up between that and Rosie. To me there usually has to be a reason for the name. I don't like these 150 year old names, either for dogs or babies. I just see things like "George and Mildred".

Nannyfannybanny · 20/02/2025 19:13

Shes absolutely gorgeous by the way

In my humble opinion, every animal should be named Dickhead. It doesn't matter what their actual names are, they always end up being called dickhead in my house 😂

But more seriously. Where's the photo?

I was going to suggest Tinker (or Tinkerbelle) or Monster for the same reason!

she looks like a Roxy to me.

Truffle , Dolly , Judy , Treacle , Molly , Tanya .

FrogFairy · 20/02/2025 19:19

Mabli is similar to Mabel but gives you the ee ending. A Welsh name that means lovable.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 20/02/2025 19:23

Mabli - Welsh but similar to Mabel with the eee sound at the end.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 20/02/2025 19:24

Sorry @FrogFairy - x post!

SnoopySantaPaws · 20/02/2025 19:24

OMG she's gorgeous!!

I can't come up with a name I'd be happy with🙇🏻‍♀️ but I think if you're going to change her name you don't need to stick to one ending in ie. She'll soon learn her new name, especially if it means she gets a treat initially!!!

she really is absolutely adorable!!

MrsCrabOrange · 20/02/2025 19:53

I like Dolly! And glad to hear about your kids lol I had visions of toddlers etc! I hope she settles in quickly with you 🙂

adamduritzvocalchords · 20/02/2025 20:35

My DP has met her. He said she is really clever and can already sit, give her paw and turn around and is house trained but I am prepared for some accidents whilst she settles in. I am so excited. I miss my old girl so much and miss having a dog in our house. We have had such a rough start to the year so this is just what the whole family needs. A new bundle of chaos to entertain us and for us to adore. My 15 year old was saying last week how much she wants a dog to be able to cuddle. She is really struggling with her mental health so this is going to be amazing for her. She also likes going for a walk too so going out with a big (eventually) Rottweiler will keep her safe!

Does anyone really want to shout Bluebell or Primrose across the park!

Jason118 · 21/02/2025 12:11

Cordelia

TheNuthatch · 21/02/2025 14:53

She's stunning op 😍
You don't need to stick to an 'ee' name, she'll soon learn her new one. Some lovely suggestions already. Dolly would suit her. I also like Wilma.
I grew up with a rottie girl and she was fabulous. Her name was Star. Good luck.

Doglass · 21/02/2025 14:58

My suggestion is Ruthie or Stevie, gorgeous pup!

Gardendiary · 21/02/2025 15:00

Aww she is beautiful. How about instead of Minnie (which also make me think mouse) Millie, Winnie, Sophie or Lucy.

adamduritzvocalchords · 22/02/2025 08:42

@Doglass funnily enough I woke up this morning thinking stevie could be an option.@Gardendiary we had a hamster called Winnie so that is out and a family member called Sophie. I think Honey would be cute too so we could say 'honey I'm home!' All the time. She is due here in the next hour. I am fit to burst with excitement!

She is here. She is perfect. Eating well, going out to the toilet. My kids all adore her already. After much debate she is called Nessie.
