Lagotto Romagnolo anyone have one or know one?

Planning ahead for my next pup and wanted to get on the waiting list for a good breeder.
I was thinking about a Standard Schnauzer, but I know they aren’t always sociable with other people and dogs.
I live by the sea and do agility and scent work with my existing dog ( though she hates the sea!)
I think a Lagotto would enjoy all those things.
What are they like to train and live with?

Thanks in anticipation

Lagotto are awesome little dogs. Be ready for everyone to think it is a doodle!

Happy Lagotto's do need to be doing something and like to be busy.

Fab scent dogs easy and willing to train. I know of several Lagotto that hate the water despite their genes! However some do love it.

Grooming costs need to be considered. Some very good breeders and some to avoid same as any breed.

Personally I would go for a Lagotto over a Schnauzer. Schnauzer can be high energy but do not like repetitive training so can sometimes be frustrating for people to train. People call them stubborn or independent. I dont like that description as they learn diferently to some breeds but it can be tricky to work with.

So if I wanted to do dog sports Lagotto over Schnauzer anytime

Thanks, @KeenOtter , sounds like you know a good deal about them. Very helpful indeed.

Having rehomed my last couple of dogs, both of which have been challenging, (including a poodle which people always think is a doodle, so I’m used to that!) , I’m keen to have a well bred, hopefully straightforward, pup next time.

If you happen to know of any good breeders in the south of England and were able to pm me names, that would be fab.

There's one I see on my walks sometimes... aptly called Truffle 😂

I did think he was a doodle 🙈 Seems like a lovely dog though, really friendly. They obviously are keen diggers!

If you are looking for an "easy" breed, then you probably shouldn't be getting a lagotto... They go through life following their nose, not their owners. They are smart, and they know what they want and will work around you to get it. They need challenges and stimulation or else they will get bored. They also need firm ground rules, but this is where it gets tricky - they are also very sensitive dogs. The lagotto needs gentle and consistent training and praise. They do not do well with harsh commands or loud noises, get scared and unsure, which can result in aggressive behaviour (from fear). Also, of the three lagotti I know, two have separation anxiety. But if you are ready to put in the work and train them properly, making sure they're not bored, then they are lovely smart dogs, very loyal and playful.
