How many poos?

How many poos are the right amount of poos? Boo (16 1/2 months) like to lie in until about 8.30. He then usually goes out to toilet. We always go for a walk late morning. He almost always does 2 poos on this walk. Sometimes as little as 5-10 minutes apart. They look fine. He seems fine. Should I worry about this pooing schedule?

My dog usually has 2 poos on her morning walk as well. Hers can be as little is 1-2 mins apart if it's raining because she's wants to hurry up and go home instead, she hates rain and will refuse to walk any direction but home after her second poo. 🙄

Mine do anywhere between 1-5 - depends on whether they stop mid poo to play with each other and then start squatting again.

Honestly, unless it’s repeatedly runny or tinged red (trying to be diplomatic) you don’t need to worry. As with sleep schedules, all dogs are different

Note also that some dog foods have more bulking agents, so they have larger/more frequent poos than say a meat/raw diet. I recall an article about cheaper, supermarket foods having more bulking agents than 'some' pricier brands.

Mine has kibble, sachets and maybe 1 meaty bone a week. She sometimes goes twice on a long walk, but at least once. I assume she also goes in the garden. I'd guess 2-4x a day. She is an 8kg, poodle X.

It’s very normal for them to poo, walk a bit and poo again - even in the garden some dogs will do that.

Mine goes first thing in the morning in the garden, then usually once or twice more during the day, usually on his walk. He rarely goes twice on one walk, probably once in the last six months or so

Food makes a massive difference to poo, both in bulk, aroma and texture.
I feed Lily's Kitchen and Josera, or chicken and beef and the poos are small and firm and easy to pick up.

But she stole a bag of Malteasers and ate most of the packet, and the poos 24 hrs later were odiferous and squiffy due to the sugars.

Chicken skin also gives her the squits.

Mine normally goes 2-3 times a day.

I walk a lot of dogs and would say around 50% of them do two (or more) poos on their walks! It's very normal.

warning - may be TMI! I think pups get into a routine just like us. Mine won’t eat anything until she’s been for her morning walk when she has a huuuuuge poo (her nick name is three bags) and she usually has a smaller poo (standard human sized!) on the way home.

Occasionally she may have one at tea time - depends if she’s had any fresh fruit through the day.

I spent a lot of time googling what the normal amount was as her first morning one is so gigantic it’s like three big blokes have took a dump. She’s a 19kg cocker. She likes to eat a lot of fresh veg though (steamed or raw) and her supper is usually fresh veg like bell peppers and carrots so I think it just prompts her first thing.

I have IBS and I’m still to this day amazed at her fantastic poos. I think I need to get some other interests!

Does anyone else’s dog walk in circles whilst pooping and smiling? It’s like a brown crop circle….. she squats and waddles round and sometimes does this ballerina pose sticking one back leg right out…. Looks kinda dainty in a weird way! And she’s so giddy afterwards.

Not during the actual process, but will twist and turn, sniffing fur a suitable spot, prior to the actual deed.

Mine does three a day, two in the morning and one in the evening

My older girl usually does a morning poop, 2 poops on her walk around lunchtime then one after dinner, middle boy poops around 11am then on his walk and will sometimes poop after dinner sometimes not if he doesn't he will sometimes do an early morning poop but not often, but he is not a big eater, youngest boy, will poop first thing might do an 11am poop too, will poop on his walk and after dinner, he is a hoover and will eat anything, thankfully they are are all fairly small and so is their output, DH was very proud the other day that all 3 synchronised pooped the other day and he got all 3 in one poo bag!

Mine can do three on a short walk. First is a brick, great for emptying anal glands, thank God I don’t have to do it manually, then something quite firm, then something small and quite loose.
