Hello my fabulous Podsquad, here is Podcast Thread III.

For anyone that is new to this thread, it's about my rescue dog, known as Pod.

Here is thread No. 2 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/the_doghouse/5197068-the-pod-cast?page=39&reply=141216881

And thread No 1 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/the_doghouse/5177112-oh-my-giddy-god?page=1

for if anyone would like to go back and see how astonishingly naïve and traumatised I was by taking on a fully grown, teenaged pointy dog who seemed determined to destroy me and everything I love.

Theatrics over, here is the Pod in question (obviously I've edited the lead out - I'm not mental).

If anyone doesn't have is Insta handle and wants it, just DM me. A video of me and Pod doing yoga together will appear at some point soon.

Thanks everyone. Sadly Chappie isn't the best option because wet meat always makes him a bit looser anyway so he's on his dry biscuits for now.

I brought him back to the vet today, he's been acting crazy and his skin jumps a little when you stroke him, he's also been snatching at his belly so I thought he was probably in pain.

They listened carefully and examined him and took him temp. She said his belly seems a little tender so she prescribed some painkillers. One more sample to collect and it can go off to the lab so we know what's what.

We've had two poops with an actual shape today, because of the paste I expect, so hopefully he's a bit more comfortable tonight. My turn on the couch with him tonight. I may update at 4am haha.

Thanks as ever for my fabulous PodSquad, you're all wonderful Smile

Thats why I said if it works for your dog, thats great - one of mine did astonishing well on the old Vitalin, which is basically cereal and gravy powder you mix up yourself with some hot water, it contains bugger all real meat and on paper is awful... but she really did well on it at a time she'd eat nothing else.

I'd not recommend it.. but in some situations, I would give pretty much anything a go!

Scampuss · 19/03/2025 21:35

Oh crikey Widdlin i can still remember the smell of Vitalin and haven't mixed it for a dog since the 80s!

All fingers crossed for Pod's well-being 🤞🏼

Oh dear! Poor him and poor you.

(I’ve been woken up by cat headbutting the bedroom door in vain attempt to get in. But if I let her in she'll want to sleep on my chest.)

HangingOver · 20/03/2025 05:35

Awww puss loves you. Pod has finally gone back to sleep, wish I could!

God, there's nothing worse than a poorly hound 😭 (says the mother of 2, but at least kids can tell you where it hurts!)

Sending more "good health" vibes to your boy 😍

There's a nice video of Pod doing a bit of gardening on his page

Have you tried pumpkin puree, Hanging? My pooch had a similar tummy bug soon after we got him, and I tried the usual chicken and rice, but it didn't help at all. A bit of pumpkin puree added to his food firmed things right up. You can get tins from Amazon; the brand I got was Bakeroo, which doesn't have anything extra added to it.

HangingOver · 21/03/2025 16:05

Thanks I'll get some. No test results yet.

We just had such a beautiful moment of communication. I took Pod for his walk and then DP and I had to shoot into town to our solicitors appointment. I was going to stand outside but they said he was welcome and he sat so nicely while we talked. Then when we got home, he settled for a nap, but then immediately got up and stood on the other side of the room. DP said why is he doing that. And as Pod looked at me I really felt like we understood eachother. He was standing in a patch on sunshine; he wanted me to move his bed into it. I did and he immediately settled down with his carrot. It was a tiny thing but really lovely.

Awww that is not a tiny thing, that is huge and very lovely! :)

SilverBlue4 · 21/03/2025 18:50

Have any of you seen Bunny the dog who communicates with buttons?

Ellmau · 21/03/2025 18:53

Oh, that;s so sweet. He must be very pleased he got you to understand his wish :)

MontyDonsBlueScarf · 21/03/2025 18:56

Awww he can talk to you now!

Scampuss · 21/03/2025 23:39

Aww, lovely.

My silly bitey cat has a look that says "could you move that please, I need that space".

HangingOver · 22/03/2025 03:51

Ghad, we've been up every two hours so far tonight. Give me strength 😞

Poor Pod and poor you and DP. It’s been a long time that he’s been sick. When will the vet have the poo sample results?

WiddlinDiddlin · 22/03/2025 05:36

If you suspect it might be giardia - cut out any dairy in his diet, it can make them really lactose intolerant - but I would feed a non-dairy based pro and prebiotic if you aren't already.

Fingers x you get results soon!

Zippedydodah · 22/03/2025 06:46

Zippedydog had Guardia, the vet prescribed the kaolin paste, a shot of antibiotics and painkillers and a stiff worming dose. It cleared very quickly after that lot!
She reluctantly ate scrambled egg or chicken and rice for the duration.
Poor Pod 🤗

I didn’t know this but it explains a lot! Bill had giardia and got dreadful stinky ears and itchy skin - once I took him off lactose he’s not had a single ear problem

HangingOver · 22/03/2025 10:21

Good tip thanks Widdlin

I've been giving him the tablets in cheese so will stop that.

I've only just opened my eyes properly and Pod is still fast asleep.

Feel a bit gloomy today actually. Badly want my boy to be better.

Dumbass question squad but if I switch him the white fish and rice how do I cook it?? Haven't had fish for many years... Or do you give it raw? Would the ones that come in frozen bags be ok?

OP posts:
Bupster · 22/03/2025 10:51

Poor little bug. I'd just poach it in water, or roast it, or even just nuke it - you don't want to have to add anything like fat I shouldn't think.

When Bill's stomach was very poorly I bought a bag of Purina pro plan, which is really easy to digest. I only used it a couple of times as he settled pretty quickly. I think just make sure Pod has enough food not to be hungry, and it's not too new or too rich. If he's on his dry biscuits that he's used to, and he's eating them okay, I'd be tempted to just stick to that (but check the ingredients) plus whatever the vet's given you.

HangingOver · 22/03/2025 11:16

Urgh I just rang the vets and they said the results take up to ten days to come back.

Found a Giardia at home test on Prime. No idea how accurate they are but it's coming tomorrow. Ten bloody days he'll be a little shriveled husk by then!!!!
