Hello my fabulous Podsquad, here is Podcast Thread III.

For anyone that is new to this thread, it's about my rescue dog, known as Pod.

Here is thread No. 2 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/the_doghouse/5197068-the-pod-cast?page=39&reply=141216881

And thread No 1 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/the_doghouse/5177112-oh-my-giddy-god?page=1

for if anyone would like to go back and see how astonishingly naïve and traumatised I was by taking on a fully grown, teenaged pointy dog who seemed determined to destroy me and everything I love.

Theatrics over, here is the Pod in question (obviously I've edited the lead out - I'm not mental).

If anyone doesn't have is Insta handle and wants it, just DM me. A video of me and Pod doing yoga together will appear at some point soon.

I’m not the best at cooking fish - normally just wrap it in tinfoil and bake it in the oven until it looks done ( about 20 mins).

I would normally add a pat of butter but not for Pod with his delicate stomach.

I don’t know about raw fish, never tried giving it to a dog, someone else may know about that.

MaxandMoritz · 22/03/2025 11:45

I buy bags of frozen fillets (Bay Fishmongers white fillets) from Tesco, in fact I keep one in the freezer just in case.
I cook a couple of the fillets in the microwave in a dish with a little water, about 4 minutes maybe, on full power. Check after 2 or 3 minutes. I make sure they're really cooked and flaking.
This seems to suit her better than chicken or scrambled egg and she absolutely loves it.

HangingOver · 22/03/2025 13:19

Right, I've made about a million portions. He was very chuffed with it!

Hope he enjoys it and more importantly manages to keep hold of it in his system!

WiddlinDiddlin · 22/03/2025 15:38

Yep, its not every dog with giardia that is/becomes lactose intolerant but it is reasonably common, and of course one of the things people often try is yoghurt/kefir to help as a probiotic, and cheese to tempt them to eat, which can be feeding the parasite and making matters worse, even if there isn't that much lactose in hard cheese/yoghurty things vs milk, it can be enough to upset the dog.
Fingers x, for invalid dinners, that looks very tasty!

sydsmum · 22/03/2025 20:30

Ok. So my speciality subject is dog poo. I don't want to confuse things even more, but probiotics can cause diarrhea in some dogs. I'd also ring your vet and try and get some broad spectrum antibiotics prescribed even though his results aren't back. You can't go on like this for 10 days! Sending big Pod hugs x

HangingOver · 22/03/2025 22:36

So the probtics do work for a bit, like two solidish poops but then they go back to being squitty overnight. He's had his pumpkin powder and probiotics today but barely pooped all day so expecting splatsville tonight. DPs turn on the sofa though tonight thank the lord.

Psyllium husk does really dry things up - it’s very natural - but up to you of course if you want to try it. I hope Pod has a better night . Having had a dog who had regular overnight squits - and would spend 15 - 20 minutes in the middle of the night finding the exact perfect place in the garden to do his business I certainly sympathise!

HangingOver · 23/03/2025 11:01

A POOP FREE NIGHT! The pumpkin powder is a miracle!!

Great news! I hope that Pod is finally on the mend.

FeralWoman · 23/03/2025 11:04

Who is he humping?

Has his humping of you reduced since he had the snip?

canyon2000 · 23/03/2025 11:08

Great sex face!!

DancingFerret · 23/03/2025 13:22

In humping mode he really does look like a dinosaur.😅

The at home text instantly came up positive for Giardia. So at least we now know and I'll cancel his upcoming daycare and get the money back. I'll ring up the vet first thing and explain and hopefully they'll start the medication off the strength of the at home test. They have to surely?? I'll text all his doggy friends owners too so they can choose whether or not to hang out. I've been jumping on any poop of his as soon as it comes out of him lately so hopefully no one else will get it. Urgh, poor old Pod!

Oh, poor Pod.

LadyGrillingSole · 24/03/2025 07:06

At least you know what you're dealing with, so hopefully he'll soon be on the mend 🤒 Poor little monkey, he's really been through the wars, hasn't he!

MaxandMoritz · 24/03/2025 08:53

I hope you get something today to start clearing it up. It's hard on you and DP too.

HangingOver · 24/03/2025 11:37

Hurrah! First dose down the hatch. Pod was obscenely charming in the waiting room. I think me and DP are used to how extraordinary he looks but when you've never seen a Pod before it's evidently quite an event. His favourite nurse came out to pet him and one lady even took a photograph.

WiddlinDiddlin · 24/03/2025 20:05

Bums, I did think it might be - hey ho, now you know and can fix the issue - this may well have been on going for a while and contributory to his extreme twattiness, it can burble on in the background a long time!

Pod is a celebrity!! He needs to give pawtographs! :D

Zippedydodah · 25/03/2025 06:42

@HangingOver when our rescue had this we were advised to clean her bottom and wipe her feet in case she stood in it, after every poop (I used baby wipes) to prevent her reinfecting herself by licking her bum 🤢)

it cleared up very quickly with treatment.

HangingOver · 25/03/2025 16:51

He's struggling today. Constantly whining and asking to go out. We did have a lovely little win though. Dyou remember I mentioned I sometimes let him off lead on a strip of sand that gets cut off at high tide? Well, after doing this loads of time I've started letting him off there when it isn't high tide, because he really doesn't bolt, he just wants to do zoomies and play with his ball. And you can see for a really long way in both directions. Well today since no one was about, we played ball then walked half the way home off lead too. Pod was so go, he didn't even seem to notice his sudden freedom and just pottered back and forth with his ball. Obviously I was practically dislocating my neck looking back and forth for any dogs coming but I'm so proud of him. He's currently flopped on my legs moaning and not knowing what to do with himself. He went out yesterday at midnight and unfortunately I slept through his 3.30 poo. But tbh at this stage I'll clear up a poop rather in exchange for some uninterrupted sleep.

DP is away til Thurs night so I'm giving in the the inevitable and just putting myself at Pods disposal til then and trying to get him better. Poor little egg.

We entered another charity dog show online... Could this be his best on show moment???

Hope you're all okay. Scritches to your doggos.

Hurrah for the off lead win! :D

LadyGrillingSole · 25/03/2025 18:20

Even when he's feeling rotten he's a good boy for his mum 🤒😇

He's really understanding that you're his family for ever now, in sickness and in health, you'll be there for him 😍
